do not buy the ATI Xpert2000.  I bought one, seeing as the computer shop
had advertisted it as an ATI Rage 2000.  The Xpert 2000 card is severly
bandwith limited, due to its 64bit wide bus, instead of the proper 128bit
bus!

Go for the Geforce2!

ALSO it should be noted that the Geforce 2 MX has similiar bandwidth
problems!

Having a 1.3GHZ with an MX is about as stupid as having a 750 and Voodoo1!

Yea, the MX has ~half of the memory bandwidt, and a slower core.

The MX is probably the best bang for the buck, but I would recommend the
GF2-GTS/DDR with the system you are getting. The MX will be your bottleneck
at that speed. You can also get the Ultra version with 64megs of DDR
memory............bit of a hit on the pocketbook though. The prices on all
the GF2 cards should be coming down soon with the release of the GF3
(NV-20).

Anand's GeForce2 MX article benchmarked on an Athlon 750 [1].  The
GeForce2 MX avails itself quite nicely in 16-bit benchmarks.  It's
also unequivocally better than an SDR GeForce, while drawing less
power (some cards don't even need a fan).

Uncle Goy's benchmark page has data on the GeForce2 MX compared to a
variety of cards on the Duron 700 and a 1.1GHz Athlon [2].  It's
interesting to compare the improvement in NASCAR Heat due to a
processor upgrade or a CPU upgrade.  At high detail, where the video
card's memory bandwidth should matter the most:

  D700/GF2 MX   44.1
  D700/GF  DDR  44.2
  A1.1/GF2 MX   58.4
  A1.1/GF2 Pro  59.2

For NASCAR Heat (and probably GPL and N4), a few hundred MHz of CPU
are more important than a couple GB/s of video memory bandwidth.
Note, however, that this is a 16-bit benchmark.

Anand and Tom's have both noted that the Detonator3 drivers have
provided a nice boost over Detonator2 [3,4].

The GeForce2 MX is not a duffer's choice, it is a compromise.  If you

up another 50 ukp or so for a proper GeForce2.  You may also want to
check out the Radeon or Kyro II.
