Codemasters - give me a break!

From the Gamespot US preview:

Quote:
"The game is aimed at the general gamer rather than the hard-core
racing sim enthusiast, and while the complete version will have a
number of car set-up options, the developer admits that's not the main
focus of the game."

Then:
"Pro Race Driver uses a finite element modeling damage system that
models damage realistically based on the specific conditions of the
impact."

Oh please!  So the suspension and tires won't respond to the road
reaslistically, but damn if those body panels don't crumple with 6
degrees of freedom :/!

Another one bites the dust...  Probably sell like hotcakes, though...

Beat you to the punch! ;) See my post from yesterday. Yes indeed, sounds
sad, considering all the money being invested in the project.

I wonder if we'll ever see the perfect sim (for its time).  N4/NR2002 are
real close.  RT is further back but close as well.  F1-2001 has a lot of
followers - not me, I actually liked GP3 better.  Another open wheel sim
from Papy would surely do it.  Man that would be nice...

Yeah, Racer is at v.0 .4.9 stable and already today someone was saying
that if the cars had doors that opened and horns that beeped it would
be the best sim ever.

Most of the cars made for it can't even be *driven*, but damn, if the
doors opened that would be cool.

Guys, it's called *Racer,* Ruud named it that for a reason. Get a
clue.

What does this "open wheel"  actually means? I know Nascar is not "open
wheel" and F1 is but...

In F1 they don't have full circle steering wheel, something to do with it ?
LOL!

Open wheel = no roof on the car

Just because a car doesn't have a roof doesn't make it an Open Wheeler!!

Open wheel means just that, no fenders etc.

wrong, at LeMans, you have lots of Closed Wheel with no roof.

Open Wheel   = you can see the tire rolling strip
Closed Wheel = there's bodywork around the wheels

Good to see you popping into the Racer forum Kevin :0)

Racer already looks pretty darned good, so it'll be ace to have you around
to help badger Ruud into implementing even more physics, and steer the rest
of the forum readers away from "not so important" things like beepy
horns.... :0)

Yup.
Besides, it wont compete with words like spyder, spider, speedster or
cabriolet this way ;-)

The reason they F1 drivers don't have a fully rounded wheel, is, because
their legs are jammed up in a slightly crouching posistion and the full
wheel would be rubbing against their thighs..
Open wheel cars are those with the tire/wheel/&suspension exposed.  the
other cars are those with fenders, like Stock cars, and touring cars and
rallycars.

Don't even get me started on damage modeling!

I've avoided the forums until now. I've always figured that if God had
intended text posts to have to support all that www html overhead he
wouldn't have given us text mode. Maybe I should just read them in
Lynx but since much of the problem is on the server side that's only a
partial solution. But the forums certainly seem to be where a lot of
the "action" is going on these days and I just can't avoid them any
more if I want to participate in certain activities. Can't even access
certain tracks and add ons without going to them these days.

Come to think of it, I havn't even been very active here in r.a.s. for
quite a while.

Sometimes you wanna talk, sometimes you should just shut up and drive
I guess.

My next Racer project is getting it installed on my Linux drive. (
Uwe, you didn't hear that).

Then I might take a crack at some car.ini files if I can stand the
kludgeiness of the current state of development. The Mini needs some
serious work even though it's already a hoot to drive.
