I'm posting from the F1 group, as it is my main motor sport interest.
I also lurk and post to the sim group, and occassionally lurk around
the Nascar group - so i'm x-posting to all three to express how I
feel.
Firstly, this year's Daytona 500 was a great race, and the winner
truly deserved it. And to hear his big brother up there in the booth,
that was enough to make me cry. But to have one of the greatest stock
car drivers of all time killed just moments before he crossed the line
- that was too much. When I heard he was dead - as I suspected, once I
saw that it was taking so long to get him out of there - I just felt
empty. It isn't right.
Great to see the Waltrip name back at the top - terrible, terrible to
see Dale Snr. go out in such a way - especially with his son coming in
second and junior team mate winning. I really don't have the words to
express how I feel, as a part time NASCAR fan. As an F1 fan, Senna's
death is brought to mind - it is just impossible to believe. All I can
do is offer my condolences to the family - and offer congratulations
to the Waltrips. This is, afterall, motor racing, and death will
always be a part of it.
No matter what you thought of "The Intimidator", the racing world will
be poorer without him. May Little E carry on the legacy proudly. I
don't know what else to say.
