I saw something on the net somewhere about someone being able to run
NR2003 under Wine (or WineX) as long as you use the OpenGL renderer in
the game.
WineX: www.trans***.com
I gave up on Linux because everytime I wanted to do something new with
the computer, it would take anywhere from one day to two weeks to get
everything I needed to compile some obscure software component. Under
Windows, it usually only requires a few minutes to do what I wanted to
do to begin with.
Until Linux "just works" for normal users, it ain't goin' nowhere on the
desktop because most "normal" computers users are less inquisitive, and
less knowledgeable than most computer geeks.
I really wish it would just work because I don't like being held under
Microsoft's jackboot in order to get work done at the expense of privacy
and security.
Lindows does pretty much what youre looking for John. I recieved a free
copy because of the Calif lawsuit against MS. MS actually paid for it :)
Anyway the single nicest feature of Lindows is it automatically takes care
of the dependecies using Lindows propretary (debian installer) called Click
n Run. Bear in mind this also takes away some of the control of the OS but
it's pretty slick distro nonetheless. Not on par with XP yet but about
where 98 was in its day. Worth looking at if you seriously want to dump MS
OS's.
