Nascar 4 slowdown in multiplayer

I have noticed that I had to drop the resolution from 1024x768 to
800x600 while playing Nascar 4 online. If I am playing offline, I can
have the resolution at 1024x768 with no chop or slowdown in frame rate
at all with a field of 25 cars. It plays really smooth at 1024x768
offline or 800x600 online, but I would really like to play at the
higher resolution online. You would think that it would play faster
without all the AI cars. Has anyone else noticed this? It didn't seem
to do this in the demo.

My system:


128mb RAM (PC100)
Voodoo 5500 AGP
SB Live Value
Zoom 2805 33.6 modem (ISA)

I am using D3D because I tried the OpenGL mode and it worked but was
really choppy. I am not using FSAA because of the performance hit.

I have the same problem.  Offline great, Online choppy.  And I agree with
you, less cars should result in better fps.  But, it's not just the cars,
it's the track, the audio, the whole game gets choppy.  My latency and
quality are at 150 and 100 repsectively.  I checked my fps online, and it
still said the same as offline.  So, I don't know why there would be any
choppiness.

If you use page up and drive from the bumper, it seems to correct the audio.
But, I don't expect too many will want to drive from the bumper.

Maybe the days of 33.6 and 56K modems are over as far
as online *** goes.

My 56K on Athlon 1000 runs quite well
w/ almost all options 1024X...  35-65 FPS
all cars, etc.....
