  Say you're damaged, and then get discoed later.  After you reconnect, does
the damage come back too, or a totally new car(think this is it) ?

I wouldm assume you would come back damaged, but it's never happend to me
before so I really don't know. Since it remembers what the last lap you ran
was, it should remember if your car was smashed up also.
