Guys,

Just slapped the latest (for win98se) nvidia driver (61.76) onto my GF4
Ti4200. Now GPL won't work! It won't even start, even if I change the video
setting to software.

I've had to go back to 56.64.

Is there something I need to do, other than stick with the older, working
driver?

Thanks.

I stuck with 52.16 for a long time when my main PC had a Gf4200 for gpl
compatibility but yesterday installed later (6x.xx) drivers on the PC
that now has the Gf4200 in it to try to get rbr to run a little better.
I used rivatuner to set block transfer for OpenGL (to stop the mirrors
pointing at the sky) but other than that it ran okay.

Usually if it won't run at all it's because you need to allow indexing
on the gpl folder (folder properties, advanced, allow indexing) although
if that's the case why it worked before I have no idea ;-)

If you're not using it already try OpenGL, but if it doesn't work in
software mode I can't really see that helping. Have you tried any other
3D games? Try installing the drivers again over the top of the existing
one. You only need to clean out the old driver if you are installing a
different version.

Thx for the tip, Malc - I musta dozed off when the OpenGL mirror fix was
discussed before.

I missed this too, I have the 4600 and use Direct x works pretty well, how
you fix the mirrors in OGL?

I did the same thing with my 4200ti in a vain attempt to get Brands67
to run decently but ended up going back to what I had (43 something).
I ended up***ing around with a mix of hi-res and smal 3do's to solve
the problem.

Run DXDIAG and verify that hardware accelration is actually turned on.

Try Opengl instead of D3D, it won't look as pretty but it will be
faster.

If all else fails go back to "standard VGA adapter" and try something
like nvclean to remove all references to any nvidia driver and
re-install a lower version.

BTW Dear Mr. Nvidia: How can their be 61 versions of software and it be
called stable?!
