Try formatting your hard drive and reinstalling your operating system, worked for me.....

bearing in mind that formatting your drive wipes everything off of it, I
don't think that is the solution he is looking for....

Try reinstalling the directx5 to the same folder it is in then try the new
unisnstall or restore option. should work then. try it. it sure beats
formatting and reinstalling everything else.

Go to Control Panel,....Add / Remove programs and remove it there.
It's a Microsoft product, it uninstalls better if win95 does it
itself.

Unfortunately, this method does not work! Although there is an entry in
Add/remove programs, all it does is run DXSETUP. there is no uninstall
option.
Manual uninstall is the only way, and I wish someone would tell me how, cos
I want to get rid of DX5.2.

If all you want to do is go back to an older version of DirectX, I believe that
you can install an older version of DirectX on top of your current drivers and
it will replace them.  You probably already tried this and I am wrong, but if
not try installing whatever version of DirectX you want to go back to overtop
your current drivers.

Tried that of course, but doesn't work. DX checks version numbers, and if
later doesn't do anything. Thanks anyway!
