Long ago I dowhnloaded the demo for this game..played for a while. It has been
sitting there for a long time and I just found it again. Could someone tell me
what game this became in the end? And where I could find a copy if possible?

Identifying Mobil 1 Rally Championship and rumoured sequel
A user asked what game an old Rally Championship demo became; posters identified it as Mobil 1 British Rally Championship (also sold as Rally Championship 2000), praised its stages and graphics, and noted it was hard to find in North America. Andreas Nystrom claimed Magnetic Fields was making a sequel, which others doubted since the developer's site said it no longer produced games, though he insisted he had talked to the programmer.

Do you mean Mobil 1 Rally Championship (UK title) / Rally
Championship 2000 (US title)? If so, most people got it, liked it in
some ways but whinged about the physics (try crashing into a haybale
to see the point). It's out on budget here in the UK, and quite easy
to find in places like GAME (EB as was), but I have no idea where to
find it elsewhere.

In the USA it's Mobil 1 Rally Championship. In Euroland it's Rallye
Championship 2000.

Didn't want to buy it until I heard more about it, though. The demos look great.
But I hear Rally Masters is even better?

Soz, but it's "Mobil 1 British Rally Championship" here in UK. And quite stunning it
still is.

Er... no. I don't know what it is in *continental* Europe, but my box
(bought very soon after it came out) says "Mobil 1 British Rally
Championship. "2000" doesn't come into it...

That's great news! I loved RC2000 (aka Mobil 1). The gfx were spectacular
(unless you had 2 cars on-screen in multiplayer), the physics were
patchable, and the stages were awesome. I had some issues with the
gameplay, but overall, it's the best rally game I've seen. P.S. It works
the best of all racing games with eDimensional's 3D glasses!

Yes, and yes. On *some* XP PCs the menu screen doesn't respond properly
to the keyboard, and it's unuseable, but I'm not sure what causes it.
My PC didn't work at first, but after reinstalling XP (for unrelated
reasons) it's working fine.

Are you sure?
I read on their web site that "Magnetic Fields no longer produce games".
I would be very happy to see a sequel of RC2000, but where did you read
the news?
Regards
Socius
Soc,
No answer's been posted, so I went fishing. I found a new (since May) Mag
Fields website:
http://www.magneticfields.co.uk/
with the following msg:
"Welcome to the new website for Magnetic Fields. This website will soon
contain comprehensive information about the computer games developed by
Magnetic Fields Software Design for Amiga/ST and PC. For now here are some
brief reviews."
This doesn't hint that they're working on anything specific, but why put one
up unless you've got a bun (or two) in the oven, eh?
Anyway, I flashed my press credentials and sent 'em a query. I'll let you
know what obtains.

If he'd delved a bit deeper he would have come across this on the RC
page:
"Magnetic Fields no longer produce games. The website exists just to show
information and reviews about our old games, the last of which, Mobil 1
Rally Championship, was released over two and a half years ago. However,
we appreciate that there are still a lot of people out there playing our
games, some for the first time. I will keep updating this page with links
to the best Mobil 1 Rally Championship pages around."
