Just started racing LFS and the AI cars seem to make no effort to avoid me if I slowdown to make a turn etc..(very new at the game..)..is it me or the game? (Very well could be me..).. Has anyone else had this problem? If it's me what do I do to avoid this...(other than be way out front..).. **** Eat well, stay fit, die anyway......
The sim rocks (multiplayer) but the AI really stinks ! These AI-cars aren't aware of eventual non AI-players... The AI drivers learn with each race. At 1st, they'll sideswipe you down the straights as if you aren't there (like some online racers), but you can beat them into the corners. As they learn, they go into the corners deeper before braking and will hit you from behind. I find them pretty predictable. If you can't beat them to the 1st corner (GP track), keep to the left going in and come out tight (to the inside). They will try to follow the normal racing line on the track and you should be able to pass them while exiting the corner. Remember to brake early enough going in so you can gain speed on your exit (the fastest way to go slow is to brake too late). The trick is to beat them into the next corner. If you do that, it's pretty easy to stay in front of them. When racing online, the 1st corner is also important. If you're racing a good driver and he's beats you on the exit, you can't do much except hope he makes a mistake (or several small ones) later. If you're running 1:35 laps, don't try to run a 1:34 to catch him. You'll just get into trouble. He either makes a mistake or he wins. If he's running 1:33s in a FWD car, don't even race him. Just park your car and ride with him to see what you can learn ;) We all complain about the AI drivers in every racing sim. I'm beginning to think the ones in LFS are among the best to race against. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com "TlgtrProd" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Just started racing LFS and the AI cars seem to make no effort to avoid me if I > slowdown to make a turn etc..(very new at the game..)..is it me or the game? > (Very well could be me..).. Think about this little sentence when you race against the AI and try to answer it honestly : do you EVER have the impression they're aware of your presence ?
Yes. They definately know I am there. If you are trying to pass them, and only are a few inches past their back bumper, they are going to stick to their line and "cut you off". But in a real race, if the driver ahead was just sticking to his line, you would back off anyways. If you are door to door with the AI, he won't stick to his line until you get past him. The AI isn't the best, but other commercial games on version 1.0 have just as bad AI, sometimes worse. I kinda like this 'relentless' AI instead of some games and their 'afraid to make any contact' AI, who moves out of the way to let you pass. Just play the game knowing the AI won't see you until you are right beside them. Yes. I could be wrong, but I know the Rookie AI drivers would sideswipe me down the long back stretch, and I seriously believe the veteran AI drivers don't (or at least not as much). When I first started playing the demo, I agreed with you. In fact, I made the same statement before; 'they drive their own race and don't even see me.' You said you just started racing LFS, so I don't know if you've raced online yet or if you've seen any other drivers. If you'd like, you can download this replay and put it in your gst folder and watch it in the Movies menu. http://www.slottweak.com/images/LFS/Slots%20FWD%20AI%20race.gst Spend some more time on the demo. No sim is all things to all people, but hopefully you'll change your mind, as I did. Good luck. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com "Silvia Twain" wrote > Think about this little sentence when you race against the AI and try to > answer it honestly : > do you EVER have the impression they're aware of your presence ?
