Yikes....what is all the fuss about?
I just ran LFS for 4 and 1/2 hours....straight. It's total junk! I wasn't
immersed in any way, shape or form. Blistered two fingers on my right hand,
then two on my left. In the fourth hour, I was using my elbows and my right
foot big toe (a suggestion for keyboard racers taken straight from the "How
To Sim Race On A Keyboard" written by Francois Menard - page 93).
I really don't see what you girls think is so cool about this?
TP
:o
Flame warTom Pabst's mock review of Live for Speed
Tom Pabst posted a tongue-in-cheek complaint that Live for Speed was junk after playing it for four and a half hours by keyboard, which many took seriously. David Powell discussed missing split-axis pedal support, and an exchange of insults with ymenard took over much of the thread.
Automated summary.
Ermmm... is this a bad joke or what ?
Or didn't I get the funny part of this post ? (if so : apologies)

Geeze, I love it. Played for about 6 hours last night, even some multiplayer
action with about 3-6 fps didn't deter me :-)

Tom, I seriously hope you were playing single player, because multi is as
much fun as I've had sitting at a computer, close racing, blowing the horn,
full contact where necessary, just tons of fun. I prefer the paved to the
rally course for now, but I enjoy both, and have had great races on both.
It's no GPL, it's something new and fun and remember to blow your horn early
and often, especially when in traffic.

I would imagine he is playing, as he stated he played it 4 hours.
If it really wasn't all that much to someone, I doubt they would put 4 hours
into it.

It's 4 AM here... just ONE more race and I WILL go to bed.

It's a great game, the only thing I absolutely hate is trying to kick
the rear end out on the rally cross track while only being able to use
single axis pedals. Just a weird feeling. The first few laps I was
underbraking half the turns on the dirt sections because I kept trying
to throw the rear end out and then play with the throttle and ended up
just canceling the brake/throttle out.

No, this whole thing developed into trouble the moment YOU started posting
on r.a.s. a couple of weeks ago.
That, and the fact that you are playing my game perfectly and I'm enjoying
it (oh I just noticed again you post a reply to your own post.. lmao so
lame). Since the MHO server came down, you were the first easy and naive
bait I could find, as I miss my daily fun and follies that I could find
there.
Let's hope somebody brings back that servOr so I can get into flamewars with
interesting and intelligent people, unlike you.

I played LFS for 4 1/2 hours...got blisters....used a keyboard (can't change
my wheel/pedals to combined without a soldering gun).......and you guys
thought I was serious about saying, "This is total junk!" You've got to be
kidding me (back)!
I think this surely proves that many r.a.s'ers don't actually read my posts.
They just see my name, form an opinion based on the "Subject Line" and then
fire away!
And to think, I've even been trying to mend my ways like Mr. Powell, lately.
Have you noticed how short most of my posts are getting? I think this is
something induced by the "Ymenard Factor"......not sure though.

you guys have been completely suckered!
May I introduce myself as a close real life friend of David's for the
last 10years in real life. I was glad to receive mail pointing me in
the direction of some tea break reading, I love a laugh. Well blow me
down! "David, said check out how many petty "muppets" there on this
group and mainly how easy you are to wind up"
David, your ability to wind up wankers is very strong, and always has
been. I have been evilly annoyed at your ability to wind me up at
times and do so with such a calm and relaxed look in your eye, but
that's why I like you amongst a wealth of other reasons.
I may add to Mr.Ymenard, that me old mucker Powell is completely sane,
and is doing what he does best, winding up the wanker. He has a
ability in this field I've yet to see surpassed, and being closely
involved with Courts of Law and the Police this is quite an
achievement. It's more about the way he winds people up, he turns
"reasonable", "normal" people into dribbling heaps of self
embarrassment. He has a canny ability to carry this off, I may add, he
only picks people he doesn't like or generally those others don't. I
think to him its a game, he's secure enough in his own mind to make a
tit of himself while dragging others to new found levels of
desperation.
To me this old news I've seen it many times, I can tell you for sure,
you have been had up. Mr Powell will be sat in his desk probably
smoking another joint rubbing his hands with glee at how easy you lot
are to manipulate.
What's really funny is, these guys think your serious "laughs out
loudly"....I mean, when it comes to driving debate you will be
serious, intensely so, I've seen James and yourself at logger heads
enough times to know that, but anything else "laughs out
loudly"...You've got that Ynemard fella feeding from your hand like a
baby....
Ymenard must be completely mad, funny thing is David acts mad, but
he's totally sane (well a very developed and free mind and that is
often used/seems to bring out the worst in people) just has a good
grasp of psychology, mostly uses this to wind people into a spin where
they haven't got an clue which direction to go to get out. This being
a classic example...
Ynemard will no doubt try and weasel out of this with a load of
reversed arguments, but that's just my BA Psychology talking.
Guys don't mess with him, he will ruin you, and all the time he's
smoking joints and "laughing out loudly"
You shouldn't waste so much time here David, we miss you, that bloody
game has consumed you!
Good to see you can still "wind the wanker" - "laughs out loudly"
I'm amazed at your resilience, as everyone here hates you! "laughs out
loudly" but that's why your here, cause you know those that mean
anything to you, know what's happening, and most all, know you for
what are, not the awful projection you display or yourself at times
"laughs out loudly"
P.S I don't even like motor-racing but I can see this Ymenard bloke is
talking the brown stuff, or talking what he wishes the situation to
be, that's in both sides of the debate.
You guys think you know David, "laughs out loudly" you don't know him
in the slightest! "laughs out loudly"
I do not condone David's activities just feel you should know a little
more before thinking he's serious "laughs out loudly" and he's a
wanker! "laughs out loudly" I'm sure he does plenty of the later
"laughs out loudly" NUDGE NUDGE "laughs out loudly" as most of the
agoraphobia sufferers on this group "laughs out loudly"
As they arguing with an idiot brings you to his level, and in this
case seems David has stooped to new levels of low-ness with Ymenard
"laughs out loudly"
I will thank you all for some good entertainment, although I don't
think I'll become a regular "laughs out loudly"
GCN
P.S David, you know what I say about arguing with people from the
American continent don't you. Its pointless as they have yet to
develop a sense of humour that can take the convoluted methods of the
European style. Oh and Jesus, after working in LA for a few months
they can't take criticism either, same reason there all in therapy,
insecurities "laughs out loudly"...as I'm sure this will prove...see I
can play too! haha!

What a fool. You've got to be kidding me, Doug!
What part was serious, in your opinion?
Was it the part where I say I played LFS for 4 and 1/2 hours, got blisters
on my fingers......and wasn't immersed?
Or, was it the part where I said I used a keyboard sim racing technique
(using two elbows and my big toe) from reading a manual on the subject
written by Franois Menard (Ymenard)?
Within an hour of the same post, I'd just posted photos of a WC cockpit
simulator I built...and race in daily......perhaps one of the more
sophisticated "rigs" in existence within this sim community. And, you
"don't see the irony" in my saying I raced a new demo racing sim with a
keyboard for 4 and 1/2 hours!
And...didn't the "subject line" actually beg the question?
Good lord, Doug.....are you brain-dead or something?
Why didn't any of the Americans have trouble with absolutely knowing I was
kidding......but several of you Englishmen did? Aren't you guys supposed to
be the kings of wit and sarcasm? Oh well....guess you've been one-up'd by
the Americans once again! .....LOL.....

Again, it's only in the mind of naive people to think that there is
something to "lose or win", by having somebody being defeated in a
situational usenet thread. It's pure bollocks.

The guy doesn't understand. He thinks he's onto something, to prove the

Hi David, err Gareth. You are really getting desperate now. Do you really
think we're that stupid? How creative, do you think posting from a Hotmail

I went across the world on "trip", I made a "yahoogroup" to keep everyone
posted on my progress. This group was made of all my VROC friends, maybe 40
or so, and also my reallife friends. Lets say my real life non serious
internet using friends etiquette pissed off a few of the VROCers, mainly
caused by Gareth and Duncan who got there emails personally after. I was at
Troy Rosenbergs place (GPL driver) in Canberra Australia and checked the
group after only being away 10days or so and all hell has broken lose and my
friends with nowt better to do at work commensed into verbal swordmanship
with each other and produced masses of email (which in the group a mail is
sent to everyone)
Hense Andreas Wilke probably remembers Gareth....as because of his not so
good english Gareth proceeds to take the piss of him, assumsing he's some
11year old boy I met on the net (net stereotyping, you know), so there first
meeting wasn't to great LOL.

I think I was categorized as a "no-life" back in those days by said

If not for GPL or sim racing, I'd have no interest in the net apart from
shopping/information.
As for No-Life, whatever "floats your boat", I'd rather be having what I
class as fun rather than constantly aspiring to social treads as some of my
RL counterparts do and trends that at times I have little interest in.

"Dude, I thought you were some dumb mexican"! That just shows how
inadequate the internet is for actully *KNOWING* someone vs your own
interpretation (or mis-interpration) of that individual.
Proceed with caution...

Internet is almost entirely perceptive, at initial contact.
Apart from I would add, those people on VROC I mention many were exactly as
I excepted them when I met them...Is that me being a good read of character,
or just knowing them long enough? I add at LAN events i've attended, there
were a few odd balls, I'd say I wasnt suprised by 75% and 25% were not as
excepted. Or does this just mean at VROC people are generally themselves? or
maybe as we all love one thing this has bonded the longterm members
together.
It could be argued that a flame war is a good way to dig below the surface
of intially projected personalities, and this is a rapid way to the workings
of a persons mind, but only certain areas of the entire entity. But lets not
go down that route, it's quite complex.
I've mulled over this one quite abit believe me...

Eh? -How Mexicans would be called Mitch? -Could be the image I have of you
is wrong (I have you down as a check shirt guy), but I would never have come
up with "Mexican".
Actually, so far so good as to meeting people I got to know via the net. Of
the now 20-odd I've met (across various interest) I only completely missed
the ball on two occasions. One was simmer Keith Lawrie (far skinnier than
I'd imagined), another was a fellow electronics hobbyist whom I'd assumed to
be Flemish, like me, but is actually of Ivory Coast descent (i.e. black) and
adopted into a Flemish family.

I always assumed the same thing Jan.. How many mexicans are named Mitch??
lol.. But my last name is Alatorre (Step dad, great guy btw) which is a
mexican name. I've got a lot of funny looks when I tell people my name and
they see my blonde hair blue eyes :)
I am a pretty conservative type but not to the extent of check shirts and
