Flame warNigel Nichols' Racing Legends hoax joke sparks row

Pedal maker Nigel Nichols posted a mock announcement that the West brothers had sponsorship from the 'Hoax Corporation' and would ship an empty demo CD case. Jan Verschueren and Dan Leach called it offensive trolling, while Goy Larsen, redTed and others found it funny and defended Nichols. The thread turned into personal sniping about who was trolling whom.

Well, well-- at least up to now-- the truth hurts, doesn't it. Until I see something concrete (a working demo, for instance), I will continue to believe that all this is an elaborate hoax. I may be wrong, but all we have to live by is our past experiences. And if the past is any indication, you guys are chasing ghosts. Obviously I hope I am wrong, as I would love to get my hands on something so described by West Brothers. Can you really fault anyone for being skeptical? I make a distinction between voicing scepticism and crawling out of the woodwork to ridicule and offend. Jan. =---
"redTed" wrote... > <snip> > It's called "humour". Just lighten up , ffs ! It's called offensive ridicule. And don't undo my <snip>s either! I respect the opinion of people who think WRL will never happen. In return I expect respect for wanting to give the Wests the benifit of the doubt. I don't feel I'm setting myself up for anything by being positive towards WRL. I do think it's a terribly ambitious project. I know there are a lot of economic factors against it succeeding. I know there are a lot of ifs and buts about this whole deal, but *if* the sim get "finished", turns out as good as claimed (both by the author as those who have tested what was WSC) and simmers like myself put their money where their mouth is, it might just work. I don't think being positive about a developer wanting to take racing sims in the right direction is ground for being labeled credulous/stupid nor for being ridiculed. I don't have the time of day for people who obviously think it clever to taunt well meaning, sincere individuals. Jan. =---
"Goy Larsen" wrote... > ROFL, I thought it was hilarious myself, but then > again, a man who can make pedals like that can > say and do whatever he wants :-) I reserve the right to take offence at whoever pisses me off. If he's involved with making simracing hardware his comments are even more ill advised as he will lose every last shred of integrity if he ever makes a sale on the back of WRL. Jan. =---

Nigel you seem desperate and almost wild-eyed that this sim doesnt come out... why? I mean i can understand ppl being sceptical but u seem to have some other agenda... will you lose a $1000 bet if it comes out or something? Ive talked to the wests quite a bit and i know ppl that have driven beta's of wsc/rl and i know they do very high quality work. Why cant 2 ppl create a concept like this? one person did it with x plane (a very similar concept) I mean what kinda games/sims do u actually like? are u a f1 2ker ?a gpler?why not talk about something u like rather than something u have no interest in except to see its failure? If you have nother useful to say at all why say anything? why not just shut up and go back to gt3 or ridge racer? dan "Nigel Nichols" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:agns2c$qb0$[email hidden]... > I was talking to Chris and Tony at a dreamers convention yesterday andthey

"Dave St.Onge" wrote... > I guess you've never heard the saying "Fool me once, shame > on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" I have actually... and, indeed, shame on me. I've been fooled more than I care to remember. CMR2 and F1 2001 being recent examples, but I have been led up the garden path by developer promises, dubious minimum specs and game series decending into the arcade at every incarnation (instead of improving) on more than one occasion. I just don't feel fooled by the Wests and the demise of WSC. I was enthousiastic about their concept for the game, just like I am now for WRL, yes. I had my doubts about the feasability, just like I have now, yes. Was I fooled? -not in my opinion. Might be splitting hairs like the vapourware debaters, but the West never took anything from me and, in return, didn't give anything which didn't live up to expectations. I think it foolish to hold the Empire/WSC thing falling through against them in this light. Jan. =---

Na Dan I do prety well on the online stuff. Mainly GPL/Vroc. I've won a few , lost a few. But I will never be the elite in sim racing. I will always be in the 85% bracket. But never the top But am I having fun, you bet ya. Looking forward to a online in WRL. It would just be my luck Dan if you blow me into the weeds and leave me in you dust wiping the egg off my face. But I be a smiling as you do. I think if you don't take my origianl wise crack at the West's to heart so much you would see I am all for what they want to do, but I'm not gonna take them seriously this time.
