I've just recently caught back up with the group since being out of sims for a while and have run into the following problem. Here's my setup: ECS-K7S5A motherboard(with onboard sound) with Athlon 1800+ cpu nVidia G-Force 3 using the 23.11 drivers N4 and F1-2001 both seem to crash pretty quickly while racing. The engine sound in N4 is very high pitched, but all the other sounds work fine. Grand Prix 3, the sound also seems to stutter. I'm sorry if this has been discussed previously, but has anyone else had the same problems? Thanks in advance Matt

If so, then all you can do is try different game patches and device drivers and try to narrow it down. e.g. give the 28.32 nVidia drivers a go. There aren't any known issues with the games you mentioned, so you might just have to experiment. Oh, except for GP3 2000 which runs poorly under WinXP but the original is OK (except for replays!!) -- Damien Smith [email hidden] ICQ: 77028579 F1 2001 rank: -0.664

No, when I try running in compatibility mode, it still crashes. I had no problems running either on P3-800 system, it was just after I upgraded(and yes, I did a fresh reinstall on both games). I tried the 28.32 drivers but still the same problem..should I try the 22.50? Thanks
ypou may want to setup a dual boot to 98SE, then you can check and change things in XP and race as well, which ever you are in the mood to. These days there are a number of issues in these Sims/Windows's/DirectX/drivers, so this is a good way to have you cake and eat it too. I also suggest to set the motherboard BIOS back to Setup Defaults, ensdure that the video drivers are defaults and take it from there. Put the latest VIA 4 in 1 on and set the game video setimngs to defaults (the technical ones like filtering, etc, the other ones as you wish) You may find that 98SE is fine and XP isn;t with thje same settings "Pickaxe" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:55os8.21626$[email hidden]... > I've just recently caught back up with the group since being out of simsfor

Check out a BIOS update before even attempting to dual-boot with XP, and back down the hardware acceleration, if you can get to it. Is anything over-clocked on this system? Once XP is in place on the hard drive, without the Win9x line being on the first partition, it is difficult to set up the dual booting. It is much easier to wipe the hard drive, install Win9x on the first partition followed by XP. The order of install should always be the oldest first, even if triple booting. It can be done, but manipulating the boot system is tough. -- Chris H. XP runs fine with all the games I have (including N4, GPL, MOH, and N2002) ...and my friends also (we all use MSI mobo). XP should play your games fine once you've found you're problem. Try turning off your sound chip and see if it still crashes. Then pull out all your plug ins except video. Doesn't it give you an error report? what's it say? Try several versions of Geforce drivers too. Also try the ECS newsgroup.
