Hi all,
Just tried installing the game, but when I start up and go to the control
panels, I try to assign axes for my wheel by clicking on the action (i.e.
"accelerate") and when I do that, the "move wheel/pedal" dialogue box opens
up for a split second before disappearing, not allowing me to assign axes.
So at this point, I can't use the game with my wheel. My wheel is
configured properly in windows, works fine for GPL, but what's happening
here? How do I get it to assign axes? I'm using BRD speed7 USB pedals,
win98se, Athalon800, GF3Ti200, SBlive value, any conflicts here? I'm OK
since GPL works, but I'd like it to work for other games too...
Thanks in advance...

Get ready to have a bit of fun :/... I'm assuming you're using split
axis on your pedals, which was the source of much frustration when I
first got F12001.
What axis gets assigned to steering after the dialog disappears? If
the pedals are sending signals like they're pressed, you might want to
start with the pedals unplugged and get your steering axis assigned
first.
Now the fun begins - you need a copy of DXTweak (from
www.wingmanteam.com). Once you have it installed, run DXTweak and
change to your second controller (the BRD pedals). Do not do anything
until you've done this, or you'll screw up your wheel calibration.
Once you're viewing the axis outputs from your pedals, you need to
move the pedals and see what output values are produced. Set the
pedal axis ranges so that the "Center" value equals the "pedal off"
setting, the "low" value is 1 less than this, and the "high" value is
the top of the pedal range. If your pedals reduce values as they're
pressed, you need to adjust accordingly (low is 1 more, etc).
The dialogs may be labelled differently, I don't have my gaming PC up
to check.
What you're doing is convincing F12001 that the pedals are already at
the center of thier travel, so it'll spread the control output across
the full range. A stupid bug and a stupid way to have to work around
it. I'm pretty confident this will screw your pedal config in GPL, so
you'll have to either use the WingmanTeam Clear calibration util
(never used it myself), or reset the values in DXTweak to sensible
ranges. Note that it *is* worth it, IMO - I haven't changed back
since I got F12001 and the GT mod.
You may also have a problem with the clutch pedal (I'm guessing the
BRD pedals have one). You may have to change the DXTweak values for
the clutch axis to all "0" to turn off any output from the pedal - I
don't have pedals with a clutch so I'm just guessing here.
HTH!

First, my wheel is attatched to my computer through my pedals, so there's no
way for me to configure them independently.
But - I realized that I have a problem with my wheel. There is a flaw in
one of the chips in the pedals that makes it think that button 2 on the
wheel is constantly being pressed. It shows up as red (active, pressed) in
the game controllers control panel testing section. I have already
contacted BRD and they are sending me a replacement. I realized this was
the problem (or maybe only PART of the problem? I hope not...) when I
pressed the axis to set it and it was instantly being set as "wheel B2" or
something to that extent. So, naturally the axis configuration utility
thinks that I am pressing B2 and it assumes that is the axis I want to use
for whichever control I am trying to set. Make sense?
Thank you for your help Kendt, and if this is only part of the problem, I
will give your suggestions a try.
thanks!
Brook
