I dug into windows last night and rooted out all my old soundcard files, and all my old thrustmaster files. I also used regedit and deleted every instance of those two items in the registry. Re-installed the original shipping drivers..23.11's that absolutely didn't work with anything when I first used them, and Viola! I'm not convinced I have a stable system yet, but unplugging the Pro Digital 2 Wheel 'may' have been the trick. Tom thought the TM stuff wasn't dx8.1 compliant, but I had been using dx8, 8a and 8.1 with my old Pentium III system and the TM wheel with no problems. So it may be another case of a working product breaking something else. I did get 2 20 lappers in at Daytona, the AI were quite good...two cars got sideby side and I almost felt sucked past them... I had to dig out my old LWFF and it's horrible pedals, used the Logitech 4.11c beta drivers and off I went. Thanks to everyone who helped out...I won't even say how I fixed the non working d3d...lets just say it was opperator STOOPIDITY.. don't have time to really test everything yet, but at least ONE thing worked last night... dave henrie oh...90 to 100 fps in qualifying...averaged high 40's to 50's in a race with 43 cars. Not sure how many I had drawn ahead and all that..made so many changes trying to get stuff working, I don't recall where I left it last.
Racing Nascar is not going to improve that GPL Rank! :-) SLG "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Dave... Thanks for the recognition in providing some of the information useful for you to get your system up and running. But "genius"....no way. All I did was pass on to you what I could remember from having similar problems with the same controller you were using. That's a "friend helping a friend"....in my book. Glad your system is kicking some butt....now. Have fun racing.....then work out the remaining kinks when you are ready to tackle "computer ops problems" again. "rik zeppelin" \ > Told ya! The ONLY trouble is the Nr 2002 readme says there are some problems with the 23.11 drivers and that title. Yikes! I'll probably bump up to another set after I make sure everything is toasty... Heck I'm even gonna put the case on tonight probably, most likely Been at least a year since one of my boxes was that neat. dave henrie the funny thing is...I really can't spend enough time in Nascar to really benefit from all this work, but I figure get the nastiest program working first and the rest will toe the line. My league racing has really really suffered these past two weeks. dh
Dave... I have always immediately installed the latest "beta" reference drivers leaked by Nvidia (or one/or more of their partners) as soon as it was available (or I found out about it).....for nearly two years now (back since the GF2 ULTRA days). My experience with this process over the last two years has been as follows: 1. 8 out of 10 times...there's anywhere from a good improvement or substantial improvement in either FPS or graphics quality....often both. 2. 1 out of 10 times.....there's no improvement at all (but I keep the driver installed anyway). 3. 1 out of 10 times......there's a decrease in improvement (FPS or graphics...or both)....and I uninstall and go back one version......skipping up to the next new one when released. I think you'll find that others here in ras will report something similar. The 23.11's you report using are very old ("several weeks" = being very old....in terms of Nv reference drivers which are released nearly weekly). I'm using the 27.50's at the moment...they work great for N2002 (in both d3d and OpenGL....virtually do difference that I can determine in FPS or graphics quality on my system, at least).....no probs in GPL or any of the other sims I have installed, I might add. If you haven't done so, you should install "Riva Tuner" as your "tweak utility" for your video card (and Nv ref drivers). The guy who writes this program (is Russian, by the way) and he is on top of each ref update....probably with several friends at Nv.... since he seems to always know what the latest drivers have done/changed, etc. RT will "unlock" several features in these drivers that are not available through the standard NV "official" tweak utility. For example, OpenGL has its own "LOD Slider" in RT....but not in the official NV utility. And, the use of DX 8.1 will unlock even more features of your video card which are very useful for fine tuning your graphic display to suit your tastes. Riva Tuner.....and all the latest "Nv Detonator" drivers are available from Guru3D at: http://www.guru3d.com/ I actually have a desktop icon for this site.....just click it a few times a week....see what's the latest/greatest.....and routine download/install all new Nv drivers. Currently, RT ver 10 (beta) is the latest version.....I highly recommend you installing this and spending some time learning how to use it (right click any parameter you don't understand.......RT will explain what it does and how it works). I hope this is helpful....I strongly suggest you take my advice and I think you'll find that running an Nvidia video card "at max performance" will become quite routine and simple......you can get back to sim racing instead of PC mechanic work! I believe the problem with the 23.11s and NR2002 has something to do with the paint shop. I and most of my friends found the performance of the 23.11s to be very low compared to other drivers. This seemed to be more of a Win9x/ME thing as most with XP reported an increase. My take on the constant flood of Nvidia drivers is that it is a good thing. Sure you may hit a bad set once and awhile, but its nice to keep getting performance upgrades for an expensive piece of hardware. The big gains usually come around the time of a new card release. I don't usually try out every version that comes out, but I wait and see if they get good reviews or not then give them a shot if they look promising.. I have had ATI and 3DFX cards in the past and it was always frustrating when I would run in to problems and have no options to try and fix it. At least with Nvidia we have something to try. MadDAWG
Well the verdict on 23.11's... in d3d no window 7fps in a window 40 to 60fps full field full view etc...so I will be experiementing soon. I have riva tuner and have overclocked to something like 2/3rds of the highlighted slider area....200 and 450 approximentally. I'll get back later...time is really tight right now..I will probably miss this weekends league events..darnit.. dave henrie "MadDAWG" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > I believe the problem with the 23.11s and NR2002 has something to do with > the paint shop. Tom, Do you uninstall completely your previous drivers or do you just install the newer beta drivers over the previous driver version? Don... "No".....not usually. A few times where a driver release has caused problems on my system, I've uninstalled it using "Detonator Destroyer"....just for good measure. But, 99% of the time, I just install the new ref drivers over the existing....following the install procedures in the readme exactly. Ok, thanks, that's a topic that seems to vary widely in opinion, in the past typically I have uninstalled previous drivers, but I have read where many folks just install over the drivers since they are supposedly unified drivers. I am running the official 23.11's, may give one of the leaked beta driver a try and see how it goes. Once I paid attention to the readme.(duh!) then I((hopefully)) got a stable system. dave henrie
