I have a HP Pavilion 8670C
pentium 3 600 mhz
128 MB RAM
Nvidia vanta tnt2 with (sigh) 8MB RAM on board
In GPL with the newest(not really very new) drivers from HP I get about
30 fps when alone 24-26 when other cars on track (about 20 full field).
But at the start of a race on the grid its at about 16-17 fps and drops
to about 6 when the starter drops the flag.
With the dteonator 23.11 driver from Nvidia ita at about 15-17 all the
time with severe stuttering.
Now I have 2 questions:
1. Can this be fixed with some tweaking (all my other sims are fine
relatively speaking) with the HP drivers installed?
2. Can more memory be added to this board or is it cheaper/more
productive to just buy a new video card? I don't really want to mess
around with a new card unless I REALLY have to.
I usually avoid saying "throw money at the problem", but in this case, I'll
say... pitcher to the mound?
I wasn't satisfied with stock GPL using my old GeForce256.
Now with the fabulous add-ons, I stress my GeForce3 Ti200.
Also, I suspect that the newer drivers are not going to be optimized for the
TNT.
Maybe trying older drivers. My 256 seemed happiest with 6.xx's. People
mentioned 12.xx's, but it didn't work out for me.
Dig up that crap in the corner of your room, slap it on ebay and by yourself
a new card.
GPL with add-ons isn't quite N4 running at the max, but it is amazing how
far it's come.
I took before and after screenshots because I was so impressed.
Good luck with the decision...

Are you using the Papy D3D patch?
If not, get it at papy.com
That could be the bottleneck.

23.11 came out. It worked good but the mirrors in a race weekend started
out not workeing and only started to work after i watched a little bit
of the replay up to that point. But in traing it was ok from the start.

name, but they did replace the patch several months after the original was
released. Easiest way to tell if you have the updated d3d patch is to check
out the flag colors... If they are the proper shades..i.e. yellow for a
wreck, white, blue etc...then you have the newer patch. If your ontrack
flags are all sorts of odd colors...then go back and redownload it.
A better vid card is essential, but don't ignore the cpu either....GPL
loves a big chip...
