Status of the long-delayed World Sports Cars sim

A poster asked for news of the West brothers' World Sports Cars sim. Replies called it vapourware and joked about Derek Smart's Battlecruiser 3000AD, while Jason Moyer pointed to Empire Interactive's still-active game page and a PR denial of cancellation rumours. The thread drifted into Australian V8 Supercars and changes in NASCAR.

I had gone there just a few months ago and couldn't find any info on the game, so I *THINK* that info was just added to the site. Regardless, it looks like the game is definitely a go, especially since Empire has removed a bunch of stuff from their gamezone but WSC is still there. Jason
"falcon" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:<3c4012d7$0$8091$[email hidden]>... > the www.simracingmag.com > used to have some info but hasnt been online for some time now > :( Also, in addition to my previous post. I've only found one reference in google to the game being canceled and it was a rumor posted on fatbabies.com. The PR exec from Empire actually responded to the rumor: ----- 11/28 Empire Interactive Responds Empire Interactive's PR Manager wrote in to dispell the 11/14 Rumor about the cancellation of their World Sports Car racing game. Dear Mr Fatbango Just been reading the rumour re: the west racing game from Empire Interactive. Mmmmm, interesting coz I didn't know anything about it and I'm the PR Manager!!!! I've checked it out and this sroty appears to be false. Completely. Dunno where this came from but, for the record, World Sports Cars (please be advised that this is still a working title and may change for the final product) IS being developed for PC, PS2 and X Box. It HASN'T been canned for any of the afformentioned platforms and I've just sent some screnshots out to the PS2 and X Box magazines for inclusion into their 2002 roundups!!! We never once mentioned that the game was too sim-like. Hell, Empire has made a name for itself producing some of the best selling and most respected flight sims around at the momend (Battle of Britain, Apache Havoc anyone?) so it seems kinda daft that a company best known for producing flight sims should get shirty about a driving sim being too "realistic" dontcha think??? Anyway I was wondering, Mr Fatbango sir, whether you could print a counter rumour to the effect that the original rumour was complete bollocks?? Right then, I'll be off. Keep on diggin the dirt. Cheers.

We can argue about the state of the product (term used in it's broadest sense) when it was released, but it was released, we even sold a few copies ......I still have one unopened box stored somewhere, been saving it so I can give it away for a special occasion <BEG> As for WSC, I'll believe it when I see it, I hope it get released though, because even though I don't care much for WSC as such, it might just be what the sim racing world needs and according to rumors they are very open to the idea of 3rd party mods and what not, so maybe somebody will turn it onto and AussieV8 sim.... Are you Goy Smart by any chance? Or just someone who has to unload it. BC3000 doesn't work on Win2000, so I never got to see it when I downloaded a few months ago. :-( /Jens

*We* as in the people running this computer shop :-), actually the people who bought it didn't give us a hard time at all, probably because they anticipated a "few" problems with it, and only one person out of the 10 or so who bought it asked for his money back Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ * Spam is for losers who can't get business any other way * "Spamkiller" http://www.spamkiller.com

...someone would ADD Aussie V8's into the WSC product...Watch speedvision some weekend for one of the Aussie races, it makes NASCAR look tame. "Aguirre" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:02k08.251$[email hidden]...

Well, WSC ain't Nascar. :-) I've looked up Aussie V8 on the web and the tracks look more interesting than Nascar for sure, but the cars don't.

I was talking about one of the short tracks, or the times when they go to a "road course" and pretend they can drive...flame shield on! -Stuart Becktell "VFy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

The Aussie's have a front splitter and rear wing, but most Trans Am cars have a narrow greenhouse for some downforce off the rear shoulders of the car. The next closest would be the German Touring cars, which 'sound' like they have more horsepower, and downforce, but the tracks are often big boring F1 tracks so you don't get much of a sense of speed. Personally I'm finding that the nature of the track often contributes to my like or dislike of an event. Probably from watching several years of BTCC and ASTCC. The smaller, bumpier the track the more character it has. I like to see cars moving and bouncing and reacting to the road surface. Of course these qualities make those kind of tracks totally unsuitable for F1. dave henrie

I remember when they used to bump and grind all the time. Personally, i think that's why Ol' Ironhead got as much flak as he did in recent times...a lot of the "new" fans never saw the way it used to be and he was one of the few remaining drivers of the era. That's also a time when WC racing was exciting, every race too, not just a select few. That's also why i started watching the Busch races. Then it gained popularity and became as bland as WC. The truck races are great, but they're starting to go down the WC road...reshaping the factory bodies to help aero. Have any of you seen the body for the Dodges in the truck series? It's horrible...barely resembles the factory body. It's bad enough these things have nothing linking them to actual stock cars anymore, but now they screw with the bodies. </rant> -- - Will DeRivera - http://www.numic.net - http://www.luxt.com - Hi, I'm a sig virus. - Please add me to the end of your sig and help me take over the world.
Agreed Will, about Dale and Nascar in general. Nascar always wanted to be just like the other pro sports........now it is, and that's not a compliment<G> Real shame.............that was always the best part of Nascar IMO; it/it's members WEREN'T like the other sports. -John Will DeRivera <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Crr08.28857$[email hidden]...
