Hi! I've been tempted by rFactor, but have heard so much about low frame rates. Would it be playable at all on a 1.2GHz Athlon with 512 Mb RAM and a GeForce4 Ti 4200? Thanks. /andreas -- A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?
Go here, http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=features but it implies it would. Andi. "Andreas Davour" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

But, since they want to sell as many copies as possible I really don't trust that page. I have heard so much about low frame rates that I hoped someone who had actually tried it with a system like mine, or similar, might tell me it did work for real. /andreas -- A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. I have a faster CPU, Athlone 1.7GHz, but a slower GPU, GeForce 3. I can get "acceptable" fps at most tracks with the graphics settings turned down and running at 800 X 600 X 16 in DX7 mode. I cannot run at the street circuit track at all -- Sardinian? -- (fps *way* too low). Since the GPU gets input from the CPU, I'd suspect that you'd be unhappy even with the faster video card. I'm already researching a computer upgrade for the new year. HTH, -- Darryl

I would like to run at 800x600x24 in DX7 (I actually never see much difference between DX7 and DX9 games) so it sounds like your experience tells me to pass on rFactor. I guess I have to keep driving GPL instead, not that I mind. Thanks a lot! I just hate it when game companies can't confess what kind of monster you really need to use their product! /andreas -- A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. How does the demo run on your system? Andi. "Andreas Davour" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

"Andi Cole" <[email hidden]> writes: > How does the demo run on your system? There is a demo around? I browsed the site without finding any, which was odd since I've heard people mention one. I gathered they musy have pulled it since the game "went gold". Is there a demo still, and I'm just not finding it? It would probably give me an indication of how it will run on my system. /andreas -- A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? my sons pc is intel 1.1gig 256 meg ram and gf2. it runs, but you have to turn the detail down. actually, surprising it does run, as min spec is geforce3. cheers steve

To me there isn't a great difference between DX8 and DX9, but DX7 is awful in comparison. If I had your system, I'd probably give it a miss until you were able to upgrade. -- Cheers, Rod.

Amazing. It sounds like either the phase of the moon in involved, or different machines run this game *very* differently. Thanks for your feedback as well, Steve! It's getting hard to decide. I'll make another effort to track down a demo. /andreas -- A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. I found it, but didn't understand if I could do more than watch the AI, though. /andreas -- A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

So, have you driven it yourself, or just watched the AI? I didn't understand how. /andreas -- A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? Took me a while to figure out I had to host my own race instead of joining somebody elses, but once I did that it worked fine. I didn't run with any AI, just testing laps.
