Man this is the most unproductive summer I have ever had!! I picked up GPL around June..and since have been on a mad quest to scratch at my "rank".....well here I am 10 pounds heavier and still at +44.xx on GPLRank................ahhh well...maybe my 20th class reunion next summer will give me incentive to get off my ass!! I wish I could say I have enjoyed every minute of GPL...(so far)...but I have a LONG way to go! BTW...this is all coming from an ugly American "left turn guy" I will admit to always watching (lurking), and saying "would could be so good about GPL"...nowI knowwhat all the fuss was about!!! This thing is like getting the girl you could never bed!! Any of you newbies...I would love to be a mouse in your house and watch you TRY to put this thing away for the evening...hehe! I see no way of becoming an alien..I am tapped out speedwise...but after watching all the posts the last year or so...then finally seeing it for myself...I see the light!! Oh...and EldredP...stop bitchin..you are at a special place a lot of us will never see, (as far as I can tell hehe!) Ok......as you were men!! Greg31 GPLrank +44.something (MoGPL too high too display in a public forum)

You're going to be upsetting a lot of people by declaring you got down to +44.28 in less than 3 months. I've been at this stuff for 3 years and you're uncomfortably close to my times (I'm at +10.07). Only time which really needs improving for your current level is the Nurburgring, experience will take care of the remaining seconds/tenths at other tracks. As for the Monster pick a setup you're really comfortable with, read Richard Nunnini's pages (http://website.lineone.net/~richardn/index.html) and adjust it for the other cars using the principles outlined there (i.e. keeping wheel rate and roll rate constant). Then watch your times tumble. Adding driver weight is not the way to improve in racing. In fact, in my never ending quest of improving enough not to get completely blown away, I have been watching what I eat since last October (lost 13lbs) and have been exercising (cycling, running and lifting small weights) more for about 2 years now. How sad am I?? -You ain't seen nothing yet, but fortunately there are health benifits as well. > I wish I could say I have enjoyed every minute of GPL...(so > far)...but I have a LONG way to go! Wrong approach, you should drive to enjoy the cars... speed follows naturally. > BTW...this is all coming from an ugly American "left turn guy" > I will admit to always watching (lurking), and saying "would > could be so good about GPL"...now I know what all the fuss was > about!!! This thing is like getting the girl you could never > bed!! Hehehe... interesting metaphor. To me GPL is like a vehicle of discovery... I'll (accidentally or intentionally) scratch the surface of something and find there's a whole avenue to explore underneath. > Any of you newbies...I would love to be a mouse in your house > and watch you TRY to put this thing away for the evening...hehe! Mice in my appartment (if any) would have a very short life expectancy... especially if they come scratching around when I play GPL. > I see no way of becoming an alien..I am tapped out speedwise... > but after watching all the posts the last year or so...then > finally seeing it for myself...I see the light!! Amen brother! ;-)) > Oh...and EldredP...stop bitchin..you are at a special place a > lot of us will never see, (as far as I can tell hehe!) There is room for improvement, but it will become increasingly hard to do so. Perhaps you should try racing online (preferably in a league). Not only is there the incentive to "do something 'bout that 15th grid position" and to "stay on the lead lap for once", there's also a lot of help available both from the drivers and the race replays. Seeing how really fast guys approach a track in racetrim can be very insightfull for us slower people. > Ok......as you were men!! Phew, thanks! ;-) Jan. =--- "Pay attention when I'm talking to you boy!" -Foghorn Leghorn.

Then watch your times tumble. The "number of months" thing is a little misleading - I unfortunately got addicted to GPL :0) shortly after I quit my job. Three months of unemployment later I was at -3 on GPL Rank, but I'd been playing *hours per day* all of that time. I must have averaged 25 hours a week on the bloody thing! Happily enough once I reached zero rank I felt that I'd wasted enough of my time on a "virtual" hobby and since then have cut back *drastically* on the GPL hours (now down to about 4 hours per week). I've also managed to get a new job since then, so my real life is looking a little more balanced once again. And I'm enjoying GPL even more.... :0) Cheers Jim
Race replays!!, where is the best place to download one!! > "stay on the lead lap for once", there's also a lot of help available both > from the drivers and the race replays. Very true Jim........I have nothing better to do, being a non custodial Dad...so I get my time in.... 25hrs a week sounds about right....maybe closer to 30 at times......how sad of me I know Greg31 Jim Seamus wrote in message ... >The "number of months" thing is a little misleading - I unfortunately got >addicted to GPL :0) shortly after I quit my job. It all started when I bought a TSW wheel earlier this year. When I got it I found it wonderful and thought after while: "Now you've got the best equipment around for gpl, there is no excuse anymore not to get out and improve your stamina.". You know all those stupid errors one makes when concentration wears off and stuff on lap 20.... so that's what I did. Picked up jogging, cycling, and swimming and what not again for the expected length of league races (40-50 mins), and it has worked quite well so far. I've also lost 3kg in the process, so here's the counterpoint to "gpl causes weight gain" ;-) Cheers & all the best, uwe -- Uwe Schuerkamp //////////////////////////// http://www.schuerkamp.de/ Herford, Germany \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ (52.0N/8.5E) Ever wondered what's wrong with the world? http://bnetwork.com/ PGP Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61
