Oh man...... Now somebody's sending out viruses that attack your Outlook Express newsgroup bookmarks and send virus-generated postings to the newsgroups it finds in it. Dang it! I'm really sorry about this guys......"now, where's that anti-virus program I downloaded last months, hmmm????" Tom PS: If you'll note, the virus didn't spell my name correctly.
Actually David..... I got over 60 email messages with something like.... "I totally agree with you!" in the message body. I couldn't figure out where the heck these were coming from until I traced it to that virus generated post above! Man, oh man.......this virus thing is getting totally out of hand now! Tom PS: I'm wondering why I haven't gotten any email messages from r.a.s. guys who didn't agree with that statement? Hmmmm? I wonder? Man, does everyone in r.a.s. actually think "F1 is for whimps!" Wow....not sure I agree with that statement.....but I guess I'd have to go along with the majority on that. Yeah, sure....F1 probably is for whimps! Heck yeah it is! F1 IS For Whimps! Yeah....feels good saying that! F1 IS FOR WHIMPS! oh, yeeeeeessss....feels so good! .......I wonder why that feels so good?

I said that because the link in the original post didn't work, therefor it would be impossible to register anyone in agreement with you. It was a joke which I thought you would of picked up on. :-P David G Fisher "Tom Pabst" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:0j4e7.237$[email hidden]...

Personally, I just like the interface better than any other newsreader for Win9x/Linux/BeOS I've tried. Perhaps this is force of habit as a long time IE user, but there you go. BTW: what makes OE more of a security hazard than other readers? Jan. =--- "Pay attention when I'm talking to you boy!" -Foghorn Leghorn. What has been the target/tool for propagation of the last few dozen viruses? Might tell you something. That's why they call it Outbreak Express. ;-) But then, it *is* hard to change from an interface you prefer. I run across the same thing with the Netscape newsreader. When I run in *nix, there's better news readers available. But I much prefer NS's. So I can identify. -- Fester

Because its default settings allow it to run malicious code that can screw up your system. The average user doesn't know this, and wouldn't know how to protect their system. If you wanted to spread a virus, would you write it to exploit a loophole in WinVN ?? > But then, it *is* hard to change from an interface you prefer. > I run across the same thing with the Netscape newsreader. I keep forgetting a large percentage of computer owners shouldn't be computer owners in the first place. A sort of inborn "assumed intelligent until proven stupid" mentality on my part. Jan. =---

Eldred covered this adequately, so I'll refer you to his response. ;-) > > But then, it *is* hard to change from an interface you prefer. > > I run across the same thing with the Netscape newsreader. Don't know... when I *do* print doc's, I take them to work & print them. <g> Displays them on-screen fine. -- Fester

I never understood why they didn't have the default settings be more secure. then they could say:"Ok, for the more advanced users, this is how you...". Be it applications or operating systems, I think this would have prevented 80-90% of the virus/worms/etc. that are out there... Ah, I see how you never got turned off by this "feature". Back in the early days, I tried Netscrape and, while it displayed news messages fine, it did not word wrap them when printing. I.e. apart from the header one would only get the first line of the body on paper, the rest begin lopped off as it was outside the printable margin. I subsequently tried to uninstall it, but that didn't go smoothly either. Ended up having to do rebuild of my system to get rid of it and go back to IE and OE (partly my fault, didn't know better than to do a standard install back then). Jan. =---
