Does N4 model aerodynamic spoiler damage?

A player asked whether NASCAR Racing 4 models rear spoiler damage after his car felt loose following a crash. Replies confirmed that damage to the spoiler or air dam reduces downforce. The original poster noted shortcuts in the damage model, such as wall riding causing no damage and suspension being either fine or broken, and the thread drifted into wing versus spoiler terminology.

I had an accident where the backend stepped out and I wound up backing into the wall. After that, the car felt very loose. I thought I was just being over aggressive trying to get the time back that I lost from the spin. After the race I saw on the replay that my rear wing looked damaged. Does N4 model rear wing damage and the subsequent loss of down force that would occur? It would be nice to know. If they model it, I would have taken the time to get it fixed. Not knowing if it is modeled or not, I stayed out and fought the car for the rest of the race. Tire temps and wear where were not a factor as they were all fine. Russell
Yes, it's a pretty realistic simulation of NASCAR all around. Yes, damage to either the front air dam or rear "spoiler" will result in a loss of downforce at the affected end of the car. If your car was that damaged, you were most likely running realistic damage. If that's the case, don't hold your breath expecting a "complete" repair job, because also like real life, those things just can't be easily fixed in a pit stop...Just my experiences with N4. Yes, but it is "spoiler" here in redneck country, not rear wing :) If you damage part of the car that would effect your aerodynamics, it will model it. One of the problems with many leagues that run realistic damage is drivers will get involved in an incident, get repaired what can be repaired and go back out suddenly finding themselves very loose and spinning it around. Thanks to all for the replies. The reason I asked was because it appears some corners were cut when modeling damage. For example wall riding causes no damage (although the patch slows you down for a while stopping cheating). Also there appears to only be 2 states for the suspension (for each wheel), 100% OK or complete failure. So glancing blows into the wall don't hurt the car at all. It's unfortunate because I believe GPL had a few degrees of suspension failure. Don't get me wrong, I really like N4 ... just pushing for more and more realism. It would be nice if it would, like in real life, get a little bit 'better' with each pit stop though. This is something that has bugged me about Nx for a long time. There's a pre-set amount of repair you get. No more. That's not realistic. In real racing, every pit stop the pit crew can improve the situation. Not in N4. -Larry "SimRacer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Paj97.41780$[email hidden]... > Yes, damage to either the front air dam or rear "spoiler" will result in a > loss of downforce at the affected end of the car. Basically here is the USA posistion, and, as we all have learned recently, this will be the correct one...:) It is a WING if it sits off the deck, held up by one or more thingamajobbies(stanchions?) It is a SPOILER if it's bottom edge is connected to the width of the car. Euro/Aussie Touring Cars use Wings. Winston Cup cars use Spoilers. Trans Am cars used Spoilers until last year when they swapped over to wings. F15's use Wings....Typhoons use Canards...but that's another story. The front of the car can also have a spoiler if it connects along it's width to the car. I believe the European word would be splitter. Heck back in the old days of Nascar, the front spoiler was little more than a two inch tab of metal sticking down from the bumper and only maybe 36 inches wide. They called 'em Chin Spoilers. other common terms that have been bolloxed up by one side or the other. Hood=Bonnet Trunk=Boot The Hospital=Hospital A Vacation=Vacation Skirts=Valence that about covers ALL the differences...I think. dave(I call em like I see'em)henrie "Ben Coleman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3b660aec$[email hidden]... > > Don Burnette wrote in message ... > >Lol, yes, the original post referenced the " rear" wing, so I wasstating

According to Foxworthy, I am *probably* a redneck. Be that as it may, I tend to think that it should be called a spoiler regardless of where you live, etc. because that is what it is, i.e. it is not a "wing" at all. AND, I think *everybody* could use a good dose of grits... mmmmm, grits.... I agree it is a shame that all the great things modeled in the sim aren't spelled out. Why don't they let us now what is modeled? They should be proud of their work. If it wasn't for the people on these news groups, I'd never know all the "hidden" stuff that was modeled in any of these racing sims. Why do they keep it a secret? IMO a spoiler (other than being a post which reveals information concerning, say, the results of a recent race... <gd&r>) Sorry, yeah. A spoiler, usually on the rear of a car, modifies the airflow in combination with the rest of the body - e.g. it may provide a re-attachment point for the flow which separated over the rear screen. A wing may well interact with the rest of the bodywork, but is a downforce-producing device in its own right. At the front of the car you can have an airdam and/or a splitter, among other things. On which realism level? I seem to remember brushing the wall at Talladega, and suffering enough damage that I couldn't keep up with the pack... Eldred, I run on the highest realism settings (damage on realistic). It appears that there is a range of angles where you hit the wall and slow down, but do not receive any damage. Maybe from 0 degrees to 30 degrees. I have no idea of the exact angles, just a guess.
