Flame warJoke picture of a pet under the brake pedal

Hugh posted a picture suggesting a pet as an alternative to a squash ball under the brake pedal, which many found hilarious. ymenard criticised the binary posting, leading to a long and partly personal argument about Usenet etiquette.

LOL! However, I'd suggest guinea pigs, they come in a variety of sizes, make less noise on their own, are less prone to wandering off and are easier to mount in the pedal box as they have little in the way of a discernable front or back.

From: [email hidden] ([email hidden]) A friend of mine has been hit in his left eye by a squash ball about 2 months ago. His front eye-chamber was partly filled with blood (a so-called hyphema); this was solved within one day. He was treated with Tobradex and Scopolamine. After two weeks the only permanent damage seems to be a slightly enlarged pupil. This alone would not cause headaches or pain. However, after one month after the accident, a headache came up, which intensifies in waves behind or around his left eye. Within two weeks this headache grew to an unbearable level. His head was examined by a CT scan and X-rays; no abnormalities were found. Furthermore, he has no neurological disabilities. He has been given Indometacine and Tramadol (Tramal) which only slightly relieved the pain. Then he has been given Amitryptiline (Tryptizol; 70 mg/day) in combination with Deseril (30 mg/day). This treatment significantly reduced his pain, which is now bearible only with complete rest (12 hours sleep per day and no reading or driving a car; no working, only watching some TV). However, after 1 month of resting in this way, the situation no longer improves. Does anybody have a clue ???

You're probably gonna ge flamed for posting this attachment in this (non-binary) group but this made me laugh harder than anything I've seen in a LONG LONG time. My cat *loves* to wander in and out of my feet while I'm playing, usually right when I really need to concentrate. In a 30 lap GPL race at LeMans a few weeks ago she decided that was no fun so she decided to stand between me and my monitor right as I was braking at the end of Mulsanne Straight. Needless to say I ended up in the sand banks. "Hugh" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9jmq38$v9h$[email hidden]... > See attachment. <erect> Hi Ymenard (interesting name, are you from Mars?) I really have to apologise to everyone in this newsgroup for posting a picture. A big one too, more than 50KB, gosh. My particular condolences go to those who have caught cancer, lost a loved one or even died as a result of this terrible transgression. I am deeply deeply ashamed. The night I mugged my granny after an overdose of Tizer is of nothing compared to this. The problem Ymenard (or can I call you Ym, I feel we are friends now?) is that I am English. We are a strange race. To us; ignorance and humour (like humor; only funnier) take precedence over correctness (or even cancer, loss of a loved one and the occasional death). My little kitten story would have been no fun ("fun", it's a word; honestly, look it up) without a picture of Mindy (for it is she) draped around my pedals; and it took ages to make the little bugger stay still so it seemed a shame not to share it. I'm afraid I have to dissolution your much appreciated compliment that I am the ultimate knowledge when it comes to the heady topic of NNTP servers. I do know what a server is, I think (sexy box, flashing lights, loads cables, out of date as soon as you've bought one?); but NNTP? You got me there. Not Normal, Total Prat? Why would you call a server that; especially one of those black ones with air cooling vents that do nothing? More of a name I would use for an anal arse wipe (although "Kleenex" is more common). And then there is this thing about my eyes. Actually my vision is crap at both long and short distance (and I never used to, you know, really I didn't, I was just scratching myself). But where does the term come in; and how does any of this relate to my kittens. Clever of you to spot I am a lamer. My left leg was crushed when I was nine years old in a freak gardening accident. Most people just look away; I respect you for giving it to me straight. But again; do you have scientific evidence to prove that people with physical handicaps (especially those horticulturally influenced) are more prone to be ignorant about the dire consequences of posting 50KB pictures on newsgroups, where such things are abhored as an abomination before the Lord? Finally, I have a question about the <yawn> thing. Is it normal to state your personal condition at the commencement of postings in this group? Again apologies if I failed to do that last time; I have made sure of doing so in this posting (These pussies can be so tender don't you think?) I have to apologise for the message by Mr Aitken, infering in advance that you are an anal arse wipe. I am sure that is not true and that your cleaning abilities extend to other body parts and assorted household fittings. The problem is that Gerry, being a decent chap, would write something like: "Dear Hugh You probably didn't realise that you shouldn't post binaries here. I realise that in the greater scheme of things, this doesn't rate as an issue, but please don't do it again. love and kisses Gerry" Totally ineffective I agree; why be polite when you can be a total anal arse wipe? Anyway, I have been to your web site and I see we have something in common, a love of Pink Floyd (but the latest Radiohead album is bollocks don't you think?). You will be pleased to know that I have a copy of Pulse signed personally to me by Nick Mason. I suspect you don't, which brings to mind the old English saying "Nah Nah NAh NAh NAh" (look it up). What we don't seem to have in common is an ability to spell, or to write something that someone who is not heavily under the influence of recreational drugs can understand; although I did relate to the "OK ENOUGH NOW I'M SURE YOU'RE TIRED OF READING ABOUT ME !" So; apologies again Ym. I really screwed up this time. I feel bad. Never mind, I live in Thailand where the beer is cheap and the women are gorgeous; and you don't. There is a great Thai phrase which goes "Mai Pen Rai" which means something like "never mind" and is used frequently when bad things happen. Your car is demolished by an elephant (it happens): Mai pen rai Your cat falls from your 17th floor condo (it happened, hence the kittens): Mai pen rai. Some dick gets upset about fuck all in a newsgroup (surely not): Mai pen rai "Mai pen rai" is usually followed by a big Thai smile and a few beers. The Thais have it sussed; don't get upset about stuff you can do nothing about; relax and enjoy life. Try it. Have a really nice day and whatever you do, don't put your arm in an industrial strength mincing machine. love and kisses Hugh [email hidden]> wrote in message news:DdF77.23098$[email hidden]...

The most enjoyable part is that the text of the 3 posts (and their reply threads) probably took up more bytes then the original binary! I'm sure some anal person will add the sizes involved in order to refute me but who cares.

Don't think I did Jan. Haven't mocked anyone for their English in the non-English speaking countries I have lived in continuously since 1984 either. I have the deepest respect for anyone who can manage more than one language; and English is particularly difficult to learn. I can survive a holiday in French and say hello and goodbye in Thai (same words, convenient), and that's it. Tried to learn Dutch but could not get my mouth around the words. Jerrys response to your post said it all; no offense intended to anyone else. Jan Verschueren <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Heres one better, if your ISP actually abided by the Usenet rules and didn't allow binaries to be posted in non-binaries groups you wouldn't have to worry about the pic,, ahahaha, Suucccccccckkkkaaaaaaaaaaaaas On Wed, 25 Jul 2001 15:35:34 -0400, "ymenard" <[email hidden]> wrote:

That was just mean. No joke - YMenard *is* a "lamer" himself - he does a problem with his leg. I'm sure he's adapted to it and lives life to the fullest none-the-less. And the state of his limbs has no bearing on posting binaries. Apologize to YMenard for this "low blow" -- YOU were ignorant of his affliction in your vain attempt at humour. Now you look even MORE OF AN ASSHOLE. I honestly could care less about images posted to a newsgroup that is non-binary (it's not going to kill me!!) - HOWEVER, there is USENET protocol -- and good reason for it -- large(r) files will "bump" other posts from individual server's retention span. Hugh, your post was humorous - but for future reference, pls upload it to a page somewhere, or a free photo-hosting site, and just include the URL along with your text message to the group. No problem = acceptance.. ; Problem= Asshole In_the_know

I absolutely bloody love this thread!! We used to wait till teach turned to face the blackboard and then see who could hit the board closest to his head!! Thankfully I never was a teacher myself :-) . jv "Gerry Aitken" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > > Jan Verschueren wrote: > > > > No one is born knowing the English (or any other) language either, yetyou
