Flame warUnofficial AI patch for F1 Racing Championship

An Italian unofficial AI and performance patch for F1 Racing Championship was announced and posters struggled to translate its readme; one claimed the menu art was a joke. The thread became another argument over whether F1RC's AI or the players were to blame for first-corner crashes. David G Fisher and Iain Mackenzie defended the AI against several critics, and the exchange turned personal.

Excuse my ignorance, but could someone please translate the readme? FINALMENTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dopo ore, giorni e mesi di durissimo lavoro ho trovato il modo di corregere la penosa AI di F1RC. Adeguati i nomi, performance, men art e specialmente.... la AI, adesso tutto a posto. ;-) Installazione 1. Aprite F1RC Master 1.3 2. Carset 3. Load Carset 4. Aprite All fixed.RCC 5. Team-Drivers 6. Selezionate tutto 7. Il gioco fatto
I can translate points 2. and 3. into English. 2. is "carset" and 3. is "load carset". I'm working on the rest of it ;-) Todd "Krakus" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:R2G17.432103$[email hidden]... > Excuse my ignorance, but could someone please translate the readme? > > > FINALMENTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! > Dopo ore, giorni e mesi di durissimo lavoro ho trovato il modo dicorregere

I'm french so transaltion is not perfect but... Finally after hours, days and months of work I have found the way to correct the AI in F1RC I have modified names, menu art, performance and especially AI, I have tested this for 1 week non stop, the AI and performance are pefectly adapted to the game and especially with the menu art whoch is compulsory to make the game really complete and understand the modifications. anyway get f1rc master and insert his RCC file (save yours before in case you don't like the mods....) Looks like our Italian friends are having fun with us, the menu art consists of different "primates" and all the cars are Fiat 500 Bambinos !(in near-team colors of course)... I dare not think what the team performance values are ! Luis

yee ha!! we're off again - the old favourites never die! yep I did, and I do the same with F1RC. DGF's ratio of 80:20 is about right. For the thousandth time, SOME but not ALL of the issues relating to the AI in F12K and F1RC do relate to the driving capabilities of the player. A lot of sims have the AI dumbed down in terms of realism. In real F1, see what happens at the end of a straight if a driver brakes too early - several cars up his exhaust, that's what. Try ramming the brakes on in some sims and you'll see (unrealistically) the others cars happily swerving around you at 180mph. Very realistic! Sorry mate, but it's you who are talking bollocks! I've just done 15 starts at Albert Park in 6th place on the grid with all cars at expert level, and I did not have one single first corner incident. (Actually that is not particularly realistic, but that's another story.) If anyone wants replays sent, I'll happily do it again. Iain "Noddy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

BS, even in RL a driver will usually brake if the guy in front does. That's why they have brake lights.

The biggest problem I find with the AI in F1RC, is them slowing in the middle of a turn or the middle of the track when you're behind on a hotlap in qualifying. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spammers> "Iain Mackenzie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:cD%17.14530$[email hidden]... > yee ha!! we're off again - the old favourites never die! yep I did, and I > do the same with F1RC. An IRL driver starts braking from 150 mph at the 170 meter point. An F1 driver begins braking from 150 mph at the 80 meter mark. Huge difference. Much harder to overcome the mistake of a driver in front of you during braking in F1. David G Fisher "Ian P" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9iaj5c$e16$[email hidden]...

God, I find it weary to have to hold the hand of an adult. Are you sure you want to insist I'm wrong? Here's what Ian said: "Try ramming the brakes on in some sims and you'll see (unrealistically) the others cars happily swerving around you at 180mph. Very realistic!" Notice he said the words "ramming". Here's what Noddy said: "BS, even in IRL a driver will usually brake if the guy in front does." He's saying that even when an IRL driver is behind someone who is "ramming" the brakes on, that driver can avoid the car in front of him. So I, DGF, pointed out the braking differences in the two cars. By doing that, I show how it is easier for an Indy car to handle a situation like that because the braking distances are so much greater. Their reflexes don't have to be as quick. They have more of a fudge factor. The braking distances are why it's harder to pass in F1. Less time to maneuver going into a turn. If you don't believe my numbers (I know that's what would come next from either you, Gerry, or Thom), then go to www.formula1.com and find the article "A Look at Brakes" from July 2. Wipe your chin. Au contraire, eye-reaction for humans is actually fast and evasive manoeuvers is part of racing. F1 have lateral momemtum higher then any kind of cars in motorsports (except perhaps Karts), so it's even easier to evade problems ahead. But it doesn't seem so in F1RC, well except your magical version. > So I, DGF, pointed out the braking differences in the two cars. By doing > that, I show how it is easier for an Indy car to handle a situation like > that because the braking distances are so much greater. I would say, it's much more difficult for an Indycar to handle a situation like that. Braking distance are longer, lateral momemtum takes longer on ovals (especially with tyre camber that makes it worst to evade to the right). So when you are behind, braking/turning to avoid others is a very long and tedius situation compared to a F1. So there, it makes F1RC even worse because the AI should be competent and evade in most normal situations somebody who brakes in front of him. But it doesn't, F1RC drivers slam on our arse all the time. That's why the people only do hotlaps. (multi and AI is pure crap). But hey, continue denying it. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimato Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...

From the article: "Indeed, it's said that the braking capabilities of a formula1 car long ago surpassed a human brain's ability to react." In other types of sims it may be semi-realistic, but not F1 sims. If real F1 driver A is following one car length behind driver B 1at 50 mph, and expects the driver B to brake at the 80m position as it's been doing the whole race, and suddenly driver B brakes at 115m, driver A is going to ram him from behind.
