I have a Hercules Stingray 4meg card running 3dfx. I've got a line on a cheap GeForce II 32 meg Card. Are there problems running GPL on this card? I know that the game initially only supported 3dfx and Rendition chipset, I realise that there are patches out there for other chipsets but is there for this card and how well will it work? I also want to upgrade my CPU from a 266 PII to a 800 Duron. If I didn't get the new card would I see a big improvement in my FPS or would I be bottlenecked at the Stingray? Ditto above for SCGT TIA
Euan, The Stingray card is just a Hercules 2d card with a daughter card running a Voodoo1 chip for 3d. I think you would see a huge improvement if you upgrade both you're CPU and Graphics card. GPL now has a D3D driver that will work wonderfully with a new Nvidea card :) Best of luck, Dave "Euan Gilmour" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:vl7W6.450992$[email hidden]... > I have a Hercules Stingray 4meg card running 3dfx. Euan, I have a Geforce 2 MX in my C-566 @ 850 Mhz system. I had been running GPL on a Voodoo 2 in the same system prior installing the Geforce. Not only do I find the Voodoo 2 graphics more crisp and pleasing to the eye, I maintain 36 FPS at full world detail and all features enabled. Using the original D3D patch, I had to sacrifice detail to maintain 36 FPS, but even at the same detail settings, the graphics appeared to be more blurry than the Glide mode graphics of my Voodoo 2. I haven't tried the new D3D patch that many are raving about, but in all honesty, I don't see how I can improve on what I've got now. The ceiling is the 36 FPS, not the graphics quality, IMO. I also play Sports Car GT and once again, I find the Glide graphics far superior to D3D in that game. So for those two games alone, the Voodoo 2 remains in my system. The beauty of it is that it can co-exist with the Geforce 2 and take over only when it is called by a Glide application. You can probably pick up a Voodoo 2 for a song nowdays. And one final note, the Voodoo 2 is about 3 times faster than a Voodoo 1. Another reader has pointed out to you that what you have in mind is in essence Voodoo 1 technology. If the GF2 is cheap, and you can afford both that and the Duron, definately go for it. I had a 750 with a voodoo1. It worked well in 6x4, but with the GF2 I get 1280x?...well the highest res available. You'll need the new d3d patch from papy, though. R.
Thanks for the info. Also, what about patches for SCGT?
