The Pits should be back online within the next week or
so, with a brand new layout...
I've posted two videos on alt.binaries.simulators.auto.
These are The Pits previews of up-and-coming releases
for NASCAR 4 by Papyrus. We somehow think you'll
REALLY enjoy this video...let's just say that there are
very few people who have seen this before...enjoy!
There are two versions of this video, a low res version
that is in Windows Media Player format, and a high
res version using DivX format. BOTH will play with
Windows Media Player, but you'll need the DivX codec
to play it the high-res...if you don't already have the DivX
codec installed, it IS included in the .zip. Both videos will
be available from The Pits when we get back online.
Comments are welcome!
Cheers!

Notable threadPreview video of GPL Monaco converted to NASCAR 4
Jan Kohl of The Pits posted preview videos showing a NASCAR Racing 4 car driving Grand Prix Legends' Monaco, made with an unofficial track conversion. Simracing.dk mirrored the files after many users struggled with binary newsgroup downloads and the DivX codec. Readers were excited about GPL tracks in N4, and Kohl said a public converter depended on getting fully to grips with the N4 file format.
Automated summary.

As there are no comments here yet I'm assuming I'm one
of the first to see this (as a response to your post) as I'm
sure you'll get plenty of comment.

I haven't been over to the binaries group in quite a while--what the hell is
all the crap in there???
Of course my ISP has been having problems lately with their news server so
all of the pieces of the only thing that should be in there are not.
What size are the files? I could possibly host them for a week or so for
you if others are having the same problems.

I'm afarid the binary group has been under seige for many months
with continual posts & reposts of Mitchell on Demand which is
AFAIK some very expensive piece of automotive software plus
we are also getting complete vehicle manuals posted.

You are correct, Maxx, that's the size of the files. If anyone wishes to
post them, they are more than welcome, I didn't put them on the Norway
Pits because it's not designed to be a high bandwidth server. I can
safely say that whoever posts them will run their bandwidth up substancially,
as if only 100 people download the video, you're already talking 1.6 Gig
transfer...hence the reason we didn't put it on The Norway Mirror...
Cheers!

When you post binary files in a newsgroup, they are divided into equal
smaller parts. You need to assemble them. Select them all, right click and
"combine and decode".

LOL! You are exactly correct, Ed, heck, it's even useless in F1! No passing,

Unfortunately, it's one redeeming virtue (the amount of girls watching the race)

It was perhaps badly phrased. Try it this way:
. . .for "N4 by Papyrus."

Boy this just ain't my day. I have all the latest updates for windows
media player, but it just sits there trying to
connect......connecting....connnecting....sure hope it's a good movie...of
Course with TPTCC Ace Jan driving, it ought to be...somewhere he has a short
replay of using a GPL drift through the inner loop at watkins glenn, with a
N3 car. (which I 'thought' couldn't be slid like that)

Try pressing the Alt key when clicking on the link. That should bring up
the Save As dialog instead of opening the Media Player.

Mine said that too. Looking at my network hub lights though, there was
activity. The movie is downloading even though MP says 'connecting'; just
give it time.

A privately crafted update for N4 which should have been created by N4s
creator Papyrus as part of an expansion package for their growing "Legends"
franchise, the premier release of which is GPL3, except for the fact that
Sierra insists that their releases prove profitable.

Oh please. Papyrus exists to make profit, don't ever forget that. They
want to pay their houses and eat food when they arrive at home, you
know...`;-/

That's what I said.
I guess I should have used the humor tags, but I thought it was clearly over

Funny, I was just wondering while running La Sarthe, what it'd be like
in an N4 beast...
Now we have to ask NASCAR, would Le Mans be a restrictor plate race?
:)
Man, I just wants N4 physics & graphics, GPL tracks, and SCGT cars, I
know, I know WSC...
Eric
How do you get the Codec for Windows Media Player? I went to divx.com and it
does an install, but doesn't work.
The site gives me a n4.avi file, nothing else. The only thing that plays is
the music.
Windows XP Pro...

There is a newer one
but that 'according to they that know' is buggy...so use the older version.
Then go to the folder you unzip it and choose the REGISTER divx file.
that will install it. I had the same problem, music with the car sound but
no picture until I did the above. Good luck
