Just got a GF2 GTS card. What should be the setting for GPL using D3d to get
the best frame rate? Or should I be using open GL and what are those
settings. Also what drivers should I be using for the video card?
system:
PIII600
256 ram
windows 98se
Thanks,
Chris G.
Definitely use D3D and not OpenGL for GPL. You'll need the D3D patch from
papy, and these are the settings I use in my core.ini-
[ Int Profile Values ]
value3 = Direct3D7:D3DDevice:0
value4 = Direct3D7:TossHighestMip:0
value5 = Direct3D7:TrilinearFiltering:0
value6 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResWidth:0
value7 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResHeight:0
value8 = Direct3D7:DirectMirrorRendering:0
value9 = Direct3D7:DisableZBuffer:0
[ Direct3D7 ]
D3DDevice = 0
TossHighestMip = 0
TrilinearFiltering = 1
DoubleMirrorResWidth = 1
DoubleMirrorResHeight = 1
DirectMirrorRendering = 1
DisableZBuffer = 0
I run 1280*1024 with the detail slider bar on half. The reason I turn the
detail bar down is that I like to run full grid AI races, and still get
close to 36 fps (I have p3-650). Also I use the 6.50 D3 drivers from
www.nvidia.com . I use these because they're the latest official drivers,
and I don't like using beta drivers, but I have heard that some of the other
drivers may be faster. I don't use FSAA.
Hope that helps :)

I agree with MadDawg on that observation. The difference is remarkable and
very noticeable on a GF-3 card! And the FPS "hit"...is minimal really.

Ok, i'll give em a go :)

Hmm... can't really tell any difference. The 12.40s don't seem to know what
refresh rate my monitor is supposed to be in, and they have maybe slightly
better colour contrast, but apart from that no difference with 6.50. Also
the 12.40s seems to have an anisotropic filtering bug which wasn't there in
6.50, so I think i'll stick with 6.50 on my GF2 gts.

I read the 12.40 drivers have astropic filtering or something like
that. Anybody experimented with this in GPL? What does it do exactly
and does it hit the fps like FSAA does?

The frame rate hit I saw was about 0.5 fps, and it looks like this -

If you can't see the difference, look at the texture on the nose of the car.
