GPL P4 1.7 FIX !!!!

Fans celebrate Papyrus's GPL fast-CPU fix

Andre Warringa announced that Papyrus had posted the GPL fix for 1.7GHz and faster CPUs. Posters thanked Papyrus effusively and contrasted its long-term support with Ubi Soft's, which drew David G Fisher into the usual argument about Ubi Soft's add-on stance. Others reminisced about Indianapolis 500: The Simulation and early Papyrus titles building the company's following.

Numerous and large thank yous (somehow that doesn't look right) to Papyrus/Sierra for continuing to support their software and therefore us, the GPL community. Unprecedented! Ubisoft could learn a thing or two here.... Of course you guys at P/S realize you could mop the floor with every contemporary F1 sim on the market if you put your talents/$s to it...8^)...just a thought... J. P. Obviously you haven't tried N4 yet. You are right on about long term support, but since papy really does this for GPL I have to wonder if this isn't someone's baby (so to speak) and they are doing it for themselfs as much as anyone else. MadDAWG

IIRC, we got the D3D patch for GPL because one of the GPL developers wanted to play GPL on his new GeForce card. I believe they're taking care of themselves first, but I'm REALLY glad they choose to share with the rest of us! <G> -- JB

I've always liked Papy's titles from day one and I thought Sierra might "stifle" their support to the customer and how well the can work under gun? Damn I'm glad I was wrong! :-) I thought Papy/Sierra was good before! Well now they really have went over the top of the best of the best!! Also Ditto on Uncle Fester states too!! :-) TY Papy.. Even though some here at the all-knowing r.a.s. insisted Ubi Soft was going to go after a number of sites that carried add-ons, and destroy sim racing forever, they actually only asked ONE site to do so because it was affiliated with their parent company. Fiction is always juicier than fact. David G Fisher "David Buttery" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Yes, there is actually. It comes, however, from a less emotional, more informational, and less biased forum. Was Indy500 better than many products released after it? Even from Papyrus? I think Hawaii for Nascar 1 built a loyal following, but TEN, and WON has pretty well destroy the community. The most significant thing hurting Papyrus' NASCAR community is that there is no controlling body to deal with the "anarchists".

Well, this must to be entirely subjective, but I think Indianapolis 500 and GPL have been the two most advanced racing simulations, in their own times. At the times of their publication, nothing else even came close. I can't think of another simulation to which this might apply - IndyCar Racing 1 perhaps? -- J. Meaning that Indy500 introduced people to 'realistic' driving sims. Thus, it started the 'hardcore' genre.
