Papyrus Done?

What will Papyrus do after N4 and GPL?

A poster asked whether Papyrus was working on anything new. Wish lists included N4 add-ons for trucks, Busch and CASCAR, a track editor, a GPL update with other seasons, and a CART sim; John Bodin claimed Midway held the CART licence, which others disputed. Rumours pointed to an unspecified open-wheel sim, and Cliff Roman hinted he knew Papyrus's next project but could not say.

Is Papy working on anything else, I'm not sure they can top N4 and GPL.
Sure they can top it: 1. Give us those addons -- Trucks, GN, Legends. 2. We need more short tracks and road courses: Maybe a CASCAR addon. You would get Mosport, 3-Rivers (equivalent english name for the french track), Edmonton as new road courses. Plus lots of great short tracks. 3. Basically, make anything with the new physics engine from N4 with internet play and I'll buy it :-) Jason. The last I heard the next project is... "an open wheel sim" Exactly what kind of open wheel was not mentioned. buzard "Morris Jones" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Is Papy working on anything else, I'm not sure they can top N4 andGPL. > >

Another year goes by, computers get faster, graphics are faster and on and on and on... Sure theres more they can do. Even to Nascar Racing. On Tue, 15 May 2001 18:39:37 -0500, "Morris Jones" <[email hidden]> wrote: > Is Papy working on anything else, I'm not sure they can top N4 and GPL. >

(The Turbo Era wins most polls) Improve the sound engine. (WSC preview sounds blow everything else into the weeds) Tweak the physics. (Dyanmic camber, etc, etc, etc.) Better network collision detection and resolution. Increase max cars for LAN multiplayer. Add the 'missing' cars / teams from '67. ETC....... Add appropriate pit stop capability--since that is the only glaring omission from the "simulation" part of the title. Marc. "Greg Campbell" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Morris Jones wrote: > > > > Is Papy working on anything else, I'm not sure they can top N4 andGPL.

I second that... A CASCAR fan... cool ;) Mosport would be possible (GPL), Trois-Rivières would be great (not mentionning all those CASCAR short tracks). Edmonton: is that the western airport track? Jason Monds wrote:

It's the inner-city airport track. I'm not sure of the western-ness of it, but it's probably the same one you're thinking of. It's definitely not at the Edmonton International airport. Speedvision televised the Edmonton race last year and it was a blast to watch :) I recommend watching Speedvisions' coverage of CASCAR this year for anyone who haven't seen them. Jason. NOBODY is doing a CART sim -- Midway has a LOCK on the CART license. Even though the Midway license uses the words "Fantasy-style," which leaves a HUGE loophole for someone else to develop simultaneous CART sims, it's not going to happen -- the CART management people don't understand the difference between "fantasy" and "sim," and as far as finding loopholes, I don't think they could find their way out of a phone booth even with the help of a chauffer and a seeing-eye dog these days. Also, one of Papy's competitors has stated that neither CART nor the IRL has any kind of fan base that would generate sales anywhere near what an F1 or NASCAR title could generate. No percieved market, no interest in the product. This would be true for Papy, too, I'm sure, especially after getting burned due to lack of interest with GPL. Expect nothing more than more NASCAR from Papy at any point in the near future. -- JB On Tue, 15 May 2001 22:24:29 -0700, Greg Campbell <[email hidden]> wrote:

Testify, brother! N4's got awesome physics, but driving around the ovals online with no Pit Strategy needed will eventually get old. Maybe Papyrus will add the accelerated wear option mentioned on the Sierra forum, but it will probably have to be a 3rd party job given Papy's purist philosophy. OTOH, racing 20 laps on Sierra with the wreckers and rookies can be hoot sometimes! We've been through this before. There is not a single shred of evidence that Midway has an exclusive license.
The Edmonton track is at the municipal airport. They claim it is the only race with aircraft (mostly light planes) using the same field during the race. Roy Berube "Jason Monds" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

And yet there is not one word of any other company even attempting to produce a CART sim. Anybody has a link to the 747 airplane incident during a Karting race on a abandoned airport back in the early 90's? That was quite a story. The plane had to do an emergency landing near Winnipeg and the only place possible was an old landing strip, which was holding a Karting event at that moment. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimato Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...

So I'd have to agree with you on this one. Maybe Papyrus could develop WSC (World Sprint Cars) and have it be an open sim where you can add your own CASCAR vehicles!
Cascar is the Canadien version of Nascar. They run cars that are closer to real world dimensions but still purpose built Ford's and Chevy's and Dodges. btw..Dodge was racing it's Avenger Model up North in the Cascar Series at least two year before they made thier famous 'Return to Racing' at Daytona. dave henrie "Andrew S" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:lGPM6.2716$[email hidden]... > "ymenard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:9NHM6.11482$[email hidden]... > > >"Andrew S" <[email hidden]> wrote > > > It would be hard for Papyrus to develop a game that could actuallysell

You can, but the vast majority of pick up races are 10%ers. -- Fester
Why not? We pit all the time online Eldred. Whether its a scheduled pit or not. Sadly, most are "not"...phew. Too many wreckes in some of the pick'up races but if you find a good group or server you don't have this!! Thank God.. "EldredP" wrote: | You can't make pit stops online? | Eldred

I had a private conversation one day with Shawn Wise and I know that they are going to be working on another project .. when I asked him if it was possibly a Cart Sim or a Dirt Track Racing sim he told me whether or not it was possible. Unfortunately, I can not tell you the answer :) Just know that they are defnately going to start another project and that is good news to me no matter what it turns out to be.
