How many Nascar roadcourses are there?

Which road courses have NASCAR series raced on?

Hoping for road courses in an N4 expansion, a poster asked which road courses NASCAR races on. Replies listed Watkins Glen and Sears Point for the top series, Heartland Park and Portland for trucks, past races at Riverside, and exhibition races at Suzuka and Twin Ring Motegi. Tom Pabst said he was involved in designing Sears Point's new layout, which others disliked compared with the old version in earlier Papyrus sims.

I was thinking that if Papyrus comes up with a track expansion pack for N4 it might only contain more ovals, which are not as much fun for me as roadcourses. I was wondering if Watkins Glen and Sears Point are the only roadcourses that Nascar ever has raced on during any season ? Also, does the Busch series ever race on other road courses?
Recently yes, but I know they ran others in the past. They have, however, totally screwed up Sears Point and turned it into more a squiggly oval than a road course. Even the drivers complain about it. Also, does the Busch > series ever race on other road courses? The term "NASCAR" is very vague. There are currently 12 Nascar series running in North America. The primary one, the Winston Cup series hasn't run another road course since Riverside back decades ago. It only runs both tracks. But, in other series, they have raced some road courses. Portland, Topeka, etc.. Well, there is Red Rocks and Bull Run, the two fantasy courses from Nascar 2...I actually enjoyed racing those more than the 'real' road courses (Glen and Sear's), tho nobody in their right mind would design a turn at the bottom of a steep hill (where you hit 220 before you have to brake) like at Red Rocks...if your brakes fail you will go sailing into the canyons... JD
BGN and WC only race at The Glen and Sears- the truck series (at least last time I paid attention)races at Heartland Park and Portland. They used to run Riverside before it closed, and maybe a couple more, but in the top 3 series today those 4 are are it. Bryon.... When's the last time you drove at Sears? They've changed the track again.....and the driver's love it now (at least the 8 drivers who tested there two weeks ago). I know, I was involved with the design of the new track configuration for Sears Point, known as the Winston Cup Chute. It now has two very distinct right-hand, 90-degree turns connected by about a 1/4 mile short chute (straight). If you go to the SPR website, you can see pictures of the new WC Chute...and the Cup drivers who tested there two weeks ago. Now...when will Papyrus "patch" the track for N4? Tom

Pardon me Tom, But Sears is (imho) RUNIED compared to how the old layout (N1/N2) was with the carousell and drag-strip etc.... I'll never forgive the IDIOT(s) who did it. -- ed_ -- Note! Hey Tom...I just watched some motorcycle races at Sears and they said turn eleven was 300 feet/yards? closet than before. what did they do? Waaaaay back...back so far I can barely remember, I got spoiled on sim driving by ICR1. the cars had TONS of downforce and mega brakes. I'd use a joystick at Long Beach or Milwaukee and start in the back and lead the race by 10 laps at 100%....I thought I was something...Then I went to Portland...The square 90degree corners at Long Beach don't really teach anything about apexing and setting up a 2nd turn with your exit from the first... But Portland....I couldn't even keep up with the FREEKIN' PACECAR!!! I put ICR1 away..never got the hang of ICR2 at Portland either...if anything it was worse...and the weight transfer bug meant you couldn't balance the car after about 15 laps or so...Road America was a disaster for me. It wasn't until the touring car patch for the TPTCC league came out for N2 that I learned to take the 3rd and 4th corners at Portland as one LONG arc. Of course I STILL suck at almost all sims...but at least I can outrun the pacecar now... :> dave henrie (mr 3 wheeler) "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

This is ONE of many reasons why a modern CART sim is so desirable to all us who keep clamoring for it. Especially if Papyrus released it...then we could possibly get the track guru's to convert the updated tracks. In America right now...the major Road Racing is done not by Nascar but by other Series like the ALMS, Grand American,(which is co-owned by Nascar), CART and the dozens of SCCA sponsored club level race series...I guess I should include Trans Am and the two Speedvision Cup leagues as well. Nascar runs 1 event at 2 roadcourses and both have been simplified to up the overall speeds.(Watkins Glen and Sears Point.) Fortunately for us simmers, there are older versions of Sears and Watkins that allow the Papyrus based simmers to experience the tracks in other configurations. Next to the banking at Monza, the additional section of the Glen( called either the Boot or the Anvil) is one of the most requested track updates. dave henrie "Cliff Roman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9a8M6.32890$[email hidden]...

Sounds similar to my luck at Portland. With ICR1 I could run a sub 1 minute lap at Long Beach with the keyboard, but Portland forget. I even tried the slow set-up and turned the boost all the way down. No luck. ICR 2 is worse. Dave Henrie wrote:

Regardless, it (the "Suzuka Thunder Special 100") was a road course. I dug up some more info: - it was 1.4 miles (it was the "East Course" of Suzuka) - it was run for 100 laps in 96 and either 100 or 125 laps in 97 (conflicting reports), and the "kink" was more like a double "S" turn (I'm looking for a picture). - it was run at least for the 96 and 97 seasons, and possibly 98 (conflicting reports) Also, it wasn't just Cup teams - the drivers were from WCS, BGN, CTS, and Winston West teams. I'm not sure what the entry criteria was. Separately, I'm still trying to confirm or deny if there was a fourth road course. Anyone else have this (probably false) memory, but I found an odd reference to a 98 season demo event in Japan (after Suzuka) called the Twin Ring Motegi held in, you guessed it, Motegi, Japan. I'm led to believe that either or both Suzuka and Motegi were cancelled for the 98 Season though because I don't recall seeing even Suzuka in 98. But the REASON it is called 'Twin' Ring Motegi is that there is also a road course that blends into and out of the oval. And no I don't recall Nascar ever racing there...perhaps a tire test or exhibition with half a dozen cars or some such thing. Also An Aussie V8 Driver ran at least one of the Suzuka races. Twin Ring Motegi held a NASCAR exhibition race in 1998. Mike Skinner won the event. It was run on the oval and not the road course sections. Suzuka held exhibition events in '96 and '97. They were won by Rusty Wallace and Jeff Gordon respectively. The races hosted drivers from WC, BGN,CTS, and international drivers. As for NASCAR road courses. The only road courses are Watkins Glen and Sears Point for the 2001 season in all of the 3 top divisions. Prior to 2001, NASCAR road courses have also included Portland, Oregon / Topeka, Kansas and Riverside, California. They even held NASCAR exhibition races at Virginia International Raceway ( www.virclub.com ) back in the day. "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:AO0N6.24106$[email hidden]...

No, they didn't run Twin Ring Motegi clockwise. The race was a 250 lap event ran in the NASCAR traditonal counter-clockwise fashion.
