golf is not a sport!!!
its a video game played on grass by those who have no balls.

ABC cuts CART coverage short for golf
Fans complained that ABC cut away from a CART race to golf before the winner's interview. Others explained that CART pays for airtime while golf draws bigger audiences, suggested split-screen or ESPN follow-up shows, and traded jokes about golf and NASCAR fans.

I can't *believe* we didn't get a winner's interview! ABC decided that their
next program was more important. What was next? Golf! Give me a break. Who
GIVES a f...?! Was it really that important to get to the golf that quickly?
Oh yeah, we might miss one or two shots(which they could always show on
replay). F'king ABC suits... >:-(

Main problem is CART PAYS ABC to be televised, ABC pays the PGA to broadcast
the golf. Thats the BIG difference. ABC wants all the ads they can get for
return on their money.
And if the roles were reversed and Golf was ending to show the race, you
would be upset if they stayed to show the winners interviews and you missed
the first 10 laps of the race

The TV market share for Golf is 2 to 4 times that of a Cart race even
if Tiger Woods isn't playing. Consider ourselves lucky that we got to watch
the whole race.

you have to pay people to show it. If it's really good then people will pay
you to have the rights to show it.
It's like a really bad meal and the cook has to pay the customer to eat it.
Maybe CART should pay the fans to fill the stands too. j/k ;)

Yes it's annoying, but it's just as annoying for golf fans too when our program runs into theirs, as
it is when theirs runs into ours.

The race winner interview was here for the westcoast version :p
but they still bearly got it in.......no time left.......I blame it
all on CART not abc/espn......cheap cart needs to buy more time
or cut the damn laps or not go yellow for a fly on the track.

Or just give way tickets, like they do in the IRL.....
Was it last year in Japan they taped all the action that occurred during
the commercial breaks and played it all back in real time. so that after
the commercials, they played the laps we missed, not just the highlights of
the leader getting passed.

But as I responded, how hard could it be to show replays of the 3-4 shots they
would have missed in the meantime? And when does racing EVER run into golf?
Few and far between, I'd say...

Probably. I happen to prefer auto racing over golf. And, auto racing always
seems to get screwed. Can't they give us ONE??? But really, couldn't they
have delayed the gold coverage, and replayed the shots later? That would have
been an easy way for both groups to see everything. There's so much 'dead
time' during golf coverage while golfers walk to their next shot, or take 5
minutes just trying to line up their CURRENT shot...

A simple split screen would of done the trick. You don't need to here the
annoucers in golf. They could of interviewed the driver and saw someone
shoot a birdie at the same time.
Both people would be happy.

He brings you down to his level, then beatsABC does that all the time. If you're lucky, you get a lame attempt
to talk to the driver through the radio.
How about coming back from commercial to find that you've missed a
restart and a crash? The same thing happened for a *tape-delayed*
race on Fox (preempted by baseball).

It's coverage like this that makes me appreciate Speedvision more.

I've always thought there was a simple solution. Schedule a "CART Today"
show on ESPN or ESPN2 *AFTER* the race is scheduled to finish. If the
race is running long on the parent network, then show "Thrills & Spills"
or a rerun of World's Strongest Man until it's over. I bet hardly anyone
would care if either of those got interrupted for post-race coverage.
IIRC, there were a few times last year they did pre-race on ESPN2 and
threw it instantly over to ABC for the race. Why can't they do it the
other way around?
