Question about copying an N4 CD draws piracy backlash

A user asked whether letting a friend burn a copy of his NASCAR Racing 4 disc would damage the original. Responses ranged from sarcastic jokes about self-destructing CDs and government monitoring to straight answers that it would not harm the disc, along with firm reminders that copying the game is illegal and hurts developers.

Yes, your N4 disc will detect that it's being copied illegally and write fatal errors into your original N4 cd. This form of protection is included in most games these days so avoid doing this at all costs. It will also cause damage to your cdrom drive and burner. -Tim "COWBOYSFN9" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > a friend of mine wants to burn a copy of my n4 disc?? has anyone triedthis?? > will it work??? will it damage my original disc??? thanks in advance

Depending on how he does it, the copy may not work on HIS machine (copy protection & all... haven't tried it myself). HTH -- Fester

Guess you missed the whole point, it is simply illegal. You can do what you want just don't expect too many here to help you break the law. -- Michael Grandy NSCSE "COWBOYSFN9" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > jeez a guy asks a simple reference question and he gets ripped a new @sshole > here. i bought my game, just was asking a question after a friend asked to burn > a copy. i can give a rats @ss whether or not he burns it. i just wanted to know > that my original didnt get damaged. i got my answer in no uncertain terms. for > that i thank you. to all the others, #%$@ YOU!!!
i understand it is breaking the law, but is the FBI going to be banging on my door looking to execute me cause i let a friend burn a cd. again, i was only making a inquiry for a friend. didnt think i would get such backlash asking a stupid question. maybe now would be a good time for me to kick my friend in his @ss for asking me to do this.............
No, the FBI won't be knocking on your door but the fact that you post this question on a atuo racing sim newsgroup is pretty stupid on your part. The people who make their living programming these games and the people who support those people by spending their own money on their products (us) all hang out here and it is pretty insulting for you to come in here and ask for advice on how you can rip off these people. Tell your friend that for a paultry $30, he can buy a copy with a manual AND be able to race you online. -Tim "COWBOYSFN9" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > i understand it is breaking the law, but is the FBI going to be banging onmy > door looking to execute me cause i let a friend burn a cd. again, i wasonly > making a inquiry for a friend. didnt think i would get such backlashasking a > stupid question. maybe now would be a good time for me to kick my friendin his > @ss for asking me to do this.............
Yes, your CD will self-destruct in 20 seconds. It's cheaper for him to buy his own. Oh, and just WAIT until he starts racing online with your CD Key. It will get real exciting for you! -Larry "COWBOYSFN9" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > a friend of mine wants to burn a copy of my n4 disc?? has anyone triedthis?? > will it work??? will it damage my original disc??? thanks in advance
believe me my intent was not to insult anyone, scorn anyone or rip anyone off. basically i wanted to make sure my cd didnt get screwed if he did do it. i got my answer as i have gotten many from other questions i have raised here. not looking to p#ss anyone off. just asking a question. thanks to all who helped and to those who flamed the hell out of me,thank you for giving me my answer as well as a good flaming. now onto some racing
Don't worry about the responses. The Government uses spell checker. So you can discount about 99.9% of the replies you recieve. >why can't you make a point in a civilised manner? > Hey Ian, lighten up a bit. I was trying to make a satiric point here and maybe wake this guy up a bit (I doubt it though). What he wants info on is illegal and he should get his butt fried for it. Too bad it won't happen. Oh well, I guess we'll have to put up with increasingly more complicated copyright protection schemes because of jerks like this.

if you knowingly lend him your disc for illegal copying. I don't think you are an evil person or anything for this, but understand: you are contributing to a big problem that ultimately winds up costing the honest consumer money in the end. Not only that, think about the people whose intellectual property this is.How would you like it if someone basically took an idea or invention of yours and distributed it to everyone? Please don't contribute to your friend's intended dishonesty.

First - it was a joke... Second - it *was* civilized. You want to let your friend copy the CD so he doesn't have to buy it. That *is* ripping someone off - the publisher. If you want to copy something, we can't stop you. Just don't insult anyone's intelligence with your excuses... Eldred p.s.
