I just watched a bit of video on Real Player of the
Mir coming down. I thought even tho not even remotely
on topic...I'd like to commend the Soviet's for an amazing
acheivement in keeping MIR aloft long after it's designed
lifespan and the apparently safe return to earth..
Good Job Lads.

Off-topic: the Mir space station's re-entry
Dave Henrie praised the Russian space programme for Mir's long life and safe deorbit. The thread brought jokes about the Taco Bell target and a racing game of dropping stations, alongside sniping over off-topic posts.

Better watch out Dave! Wosco will be along to spank you for the
unrelated post.
(Tried to get that vid of CNN on both Mac and Windows.. didn't work..
Did you see it online or on TV?)

A) At least Dave had the decency to put an 'OT' in the subject line.
B) There isn't any personal benefit for Dave by posting this
information, unlike with a certain other offtopic message.

A) I didn't force you to read anything. These aren't the droids you're
looking for. Move along.
B) I didn't know we couldn't post anything if it had any "personal
benefit"! Wow, you learn something every day. Or, at least, I do. So I
guess, then, people should avoid asking, for example, which computer
runs, say, N4 the best, because it would give them an advantage? Don't
lecture me, you paper-hiding weasel waxer.
C) You've got a crush on Wosco, haven't you? C'mon, admit it.

A piece of crap that lasted alot longer than Skylab...
Next time you build a space station, let us know so we can see how
it's done, huh?
DG
Is this new killer racing simulator? "Enjoy the thrill of dropping the
station on the head of your favorite city citizens..." ... ;-)
Tapani
lol!!!
I can picture it:
A 32-station, airlock-to-airlock race to a fiery demise!!

is that it'll take that long just to get it half way done, then it gets
scrapped :-( At least that's what I heard in one of these videos. I was
under the impression that it was going to stay up there for 20 years as is
then every so often a piece would be replaced. I hope that video that I saw
was wrong because it's an overly obvious mistake to build this thing only to
destroy it even before it's finished.

You did, by creating such a vague subject line.
After all, it could have been something like "... a company called
Papyrus, daring to release such a buggy product ...", which would
have been on topic and probably an interesting read.
>B) I didn't know we couldn't post anything if it had any "personal

I didn't say you couldn't (apparently you can), I was merely implying
that you shouldn't, not in an unmarked offtopic message about a
private business decision.
Sorry for not replying to the rest of your most mature comments.

I've seen a report about a company building some air condition systems
for the ISS and they said their gear had to be built to last for 15
years. Not sure if that was including a safety span though.
Jan
Wow. I'm pretty impressive.

Dave, One side-note: Being an active Amsat member and US amateur
radio operator I had the luxory to speak with almost every Cosmonaut
& Astronaut on Mir from 1990 to 1998.. It started out as U2MIR and
ended as R0MIR... It was great fun' and it started me into this amazing
world of the internet too!! All who I spoke with daily on Mir was great
fun & made this world seem much smaller & nicer.. I will miss Mir! 73

Task Tsk "rik" and the ocean was not poluted before? hmmm? Also if you
do your homework you will read that NASA & their Russian Counterpart
via the spacecraft Mir will be salvaged for study... {meaning they will pick
up all the pieces for study..} Cheers Thom_j.

I'm just bummed that they missed the Taco Bell sign - I was looking
forward to that free taco.
