Yesterday I installed DirectX7 and updated the drivers on my video card (ATI
Xpert128). After doing that my computer screen now constantly flickers. My
games run ok, its only when I'm doing anything in Windows that it flickers.
I'm assuming what caused this was the new video card drivers and was hoping I
could go back to how it was before (original drivers off the cd that came with
the card). How do I go about doing this, if it is at all possible? Should I
remove the card from the Device Manager, reboot and the put in the cd and
install the original drivers when prompted? Or would this not work. Or should
i first plug the monitor back into the original video card monitor port and see
if it isn't DirectX7 that is causing this flickering? I've tried different
monitor settings such as refresh rate, resolution, and color depth. I would
appreciate any help as the flickering is rather annoying. Thanks.
Nevermind, I took my own advice and reinstalled the original drivers over the
newer ones. I hope it hasn't done anything too bad.....all I know is that it
fixed the flickering of the screen. I had always been reluctant to download
new drivers because I had always thought, "if it ain't broke don't fix it."
But I always hear about how you should always have up-to-date drivers, and
since I have an aging computer (Pentium 233) I figured what the heck maybe
it'll give me a performance boost. Are there usually problems with updating
drivers or did I just mess something up somewhere? BTW, I was trying to play
N4, I just wanted to try out painting the cars (knew I had no chance of driving
with acceptable framerates) with the new Datx and Winmip2 ulities and with the
original drivers N4 was giving me a wierd light source from the upper left of
the screen which warped the paint on the car greatly. Oh well I'm just happy
that everything is fixed. Happy Racing.
