Seems a while back someone explained how to set your
wheel without calibrating everytime one starts up GPL.
Does anyone recall a fix for this?

This is strange.
There's a file in gpl/players/your_name called controls.cfg
which keeps this info. I did a reinstall of GPL yesterday,
and by backing this up I could head straight out on the track
without recalibrating. (Thank God, I use a TM Sprint, (don't
laugh!) and since the pedals suck big time I only use the
right for throttle,and the left wheel paddle for brake, and this
configuration hasn't been easy to get going.)
Do you have a force feedback wheel?
A theory from my brief encounter with a Guillemot Ferrari FF
is that if the wheel isn't powered up when you start your
computer the "game" won't know it's there, and call for a
calibration.
