Ran fine with the 4600, drivers that came with card, 66.93 had tree artifacts everywhere couldnt see to drive, so I did the newest, and shit it just locks tight ... it can crash in the same amount of time wether driving or navigating menus too... any guesses? I can reinstall this one. NR2003 of course unaffected, Rfactor is ok, I guess NSR is good too, but I will have to check. Going to bed, thanks any advise...

I dropped AGP to 4x in BIOS and for a day and a half now GTR's been solid. The framerate doesn't seem to have suffered either. RBR's more an urge type game for me, so I've not tried it at 4x yet. Hey Alan, Thanks for your thoughts & info... It surely makes me go hmmm, because my MB is pre 8x agp... I assume it is a driver problem, yet of course, I would have to do a few more tests, since the artifacts we soo bad with the older drivers, that I couldn't see enough to drive, I didnt. I did look around many menus and it didnt lock up. However latest Nvidia site drivers, do lock this puppy up with looping sounds, and no way to get back to desktop to see what the error might be, and I dont have to be 'driving' when this happened, twice last night. I was afraid I had a serious problem, like dislodged heatsink fan, (as expressed at Anandtech here is a link to what I read) last paragraph on this article page, and throughout article they touch on this. I hope Im ok, so now 2nd item I 'guess' I have to wonder, if driver dont fix it that is, is the Power-supply. I know I have a 430 watt I just bought about 16 months ago when other one shot craps. Chip check right after rebooting seems cool enough (seen through Nvidia's setting applet, found in advanced settings of display properties). Dammit. I had hear nothing about issues with these cards adn since they are suppoed to be little sister to the 6800's what the hell. Alan Le enlightened us with:

The drivers on the Nvidia site have the temp bug. My 6800GT went from 58C idle to 70C idle and that can cause some lock ups. Try the 76.45 drivers from www.guru3d.com to see if they fix things (watch out, they are BETA drivers but they work OK on my system). http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1062

Forgetting to connect that seems the most common issue in nvidia groups regarding AGP 6600GT. -- Mika Takala
Yes Mika I connected it... I know about it from before I bought it, because when I was going to buy it I kept thinking... "Surely I have a power plug left to do this..." However the old 4600 I had, did NOT have the extra jack for the same (many such cards did though) and would not over clock because it would whine about under powered... I do have a nice Newer powersupply. Anyway, let me tell you what all I did last night, well 1st tell you that I think it is running RBR OK now... OK with the 71.89 nvidia's site drivers least with limited PC time last night (I hate summer ya know, we're just tooo dang busy anymore) Anyway, 1st thing I did... Still thinking it was driver issue with DX9 or whatever, I launched 3dconfig for NR03, set it to Directx high res, 16 bit (I think it was) loaded nascar totally expecting a crash right away, but it ran just PEACHY. Some artifacts & stuff but it ran. so no more DX theory... Since It ran and I was unsure exaclty which driver I last had installed I re-downloaded the latest, installed them. But didnt go back to nascar, I decided hmmm wonder what 32 bit would crash too in RBR... Dont know why I tried 32 bit, it seems it could have been not really anything I would have tried normally? Why was it that I ran in 1024x768, BUT IN 16bit modes for the ti4600 thinking (reading)? I guess, I thought that doin so gives the card a wee bit of elbo room to keep frames up, least it did in NR03... so I did it every where by default. anyway, So I switched it to 32 bit ran the quick rally until I wrecked... no problems (course I was only on track for the total 2er something minutes again figuring it would lock up before I wrecked ya know...) seems fine now? So I went in and bumped the resolution to 1280x1024 (and color depth to 32bit, on everything I have installed... except the desktop of course, lil woman doesnt like to squint.. I only got to play with everything for 45 minutes total, seems I should be ok enough to send in the rebate (you have to cut the box serial number off) and put old card into the folk's machine now... I cant believe 16 v 32 bit fixed it, but seems to have. Im going to test our the drivers from Guru3d as suggested by Ross, maybe this weekend... Thanks Everyone! Mika Takala enlightened us with:
