I'm currently configuring a computer and am curious as to whether or not there will be a drastic decrease in performance by going with a 40gig HD that spins at 5400 RPM rather than one that spins at 7200 RPM? This may be a silly question but since I'm trying maximize the hardware everywhere else the HD looked like a place I could save some money. Money is an issue as I'm 17 and without a job. I'm making this a gaming computer so if there are any large performance decreases then I guess I'll hold out a little while longer to come up with the difference. Are there articles that I can be directed towards to help me make the decision? Again, sorry if this is just the stupidest question ever. Thanks for any help.
Yes, a 7200 rpm drive will be noticeably faster than a 5400. Considering the relatively small difference in price, there really is no reason to get a 5400. well... it is true that the 7200 will be faster than the 5400 BUT they are already fast enough,n especially if you want to play games you don't need such a fast hard disk... Save money of the "gadgets" such as internet keyboard from MS (costs a fortune for nothing special) AND get an Athlon or a Duron instead of an Intel chip. You don't NEED a 7200 rpm HD, once the game is loaded, you shouldn't be accessing the HD anyway, so once you're out there driving in your 67 F1 car, you WILL be racing GPL right ?, you won't see the difference The difference is price isn't that big as someone else mentioned, but if you can save a little here and there, you might get a little faster CPU or something instead, so yes, in your case I would have gone for a 5400 rpm drive Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com http://www.teammirage.com "Mountain climbing, auto racing and bullfighting are the only true sports...all others are games." --Ernest Hemingway--
Yes, I will be playing GPL, awesome game, and N4 amongst other games. I'm gonna see if I can't read anything about the difference in speeds because I've gotten two conflicting opinions. Thanks to everyone who's replied.
