Will the Voodoo 5 FSAA work on a DOS VGA game like GP2?
thanks

hmm Bart, haven't tried but I really doubt, since it's under D3D api,
with is windows resident, not DOS..

No. Only 3D accelerated games, which GP2 isn't one of.
There is a .bat file entry that can make FSAA work in a Dos
3D accelerated game though (original Tomb Raider etc.).
The dos game would have to have a dos 3dfx glide implementation. Since
GP2 made NO effort to patch to 3d, you are out of luck. Same goes with
Indy Car Racing 2, although this title did have a 3d patch, it was for
Rendition 3d cards and thus still not compatible with the V5's FSAA.
Dangit!

That's too bad :(
GP2 finally runs like a charm on the 800MHz Athlon & Geforce 2. This is with
*everything* on and po is <100% even with a lot of cars and smoke around :)
All it needs is FSAA to compensate for the 640x480 display.... The Geforce
also implements fsaa only for 3d programs (opengl and d3d). Too bad, in
theory it would be possible to do some anti aliassing on the gp2 images I
think.
Oh well, my eyes will have to do the fsaa i guess.. One does get used to the
aliasing after a while..

Go buy GP3 and you will be able to use FSAA and high res.

I own GP3 (and GPL), but the league (www.lfrs.com) is waiting for anti-cheat
tools for GP3 and will therefor run a GP2 competition sooner.
Btw, in practise mode the FSAA works fine in GP3, but in race mode it is too
much for the cpu, which is an 800MHz Athlon in my case. In GPL it works fine
offline, but I get a strange performance hit online, from steady 36 fps to
below 20 even when alone on the track. Plus Winvroc cannot start GPL when
fsaa is on.... So in the end I run without FSAA, but the high res of
1280x1024 makes up a lot.
I'm ok though, the trick is to not run GP2 immediately after running GP3 or
GPL in 1280x1024 :)

Even when starting a Monaco race from dead last and watching your start from
the right-rear camera mounted on the sidepod of the car? ;-)

Ha, trick question! But yes, even then po is 70-80%, 60-70% from the
cockpit. And it stayes like this all through turn 1 which in my memory had
the highest po.
The big gain is not having all graphics options on though, but the increased
feel of control. This is most appearent when a locking wheel produces smoke.
It seems a lot easier to regain control now than when I ran it on a loaded
cpu :)
