I've just installed an SB Live Platinum (not 5.1) in my system and
I'm having trouble with scratchy, static sound in GPL (for instance,
the Ferrari at 7000rpm+). Sadly, my eight year old 8-bit card did a
better job (go fig!). I installed just the Win95 drivers first
(emu10k1.vxd 4.06.00.0711), then the updated drivers (emu10k1.vxd
4.11.01.0711), then LiveWare (retaining the newer drivers). Does
anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
Abit BH6 ver 1.0, SS BIOS

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
Keep an eye out for line in or any other recording devices not being muted
or turned up loud.

Jeff,
Have you tried turning the volume down in Windows (or the game) and
turning up the speakers? Sometimes too high a volume from the system
overloads the front end of the sound card.

the cables are STILL tight, an that there aren't any connections going to
the wrong slot, therefore causing interference.
do you have the right output selected (4 speakers, 2 speakers, headphones,
surround)

Panel, you can change the level of the hardware acceleration to one
below the top and it reducess this hiss. Myself I think I was
confusing the wind sound in GPL for static as I had not heard it
before I turned on 12 sounds.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, guys. I've tried them all (and a
few other things) except Kai's above (and I'll do that later today,
maybe even swap over from PCI slot 2 to 3 for the heck of it). Just
to prove to myself that it wasn't my imagination, I put my old sound
card in my P133/V1000 and ran a replay in GPL - clean, crisp bass roar
from the Ferrari, none of the static. The card seems fine otherwise,
so I guess GPL just disagrees with it. I'm going to start looking
into alternate soundpacks for GPL to see if I find something
acceptable. Thanks again.

Jeff,
I have the exact problem you mention in GPL and have tried
all of these suggestions in the past with no luck. I use
BH6 1.02 SS bios
voodoo3 2k, agp
all drivers, directx, etc are current
Strange thing is the Nascar4 demo does same thing, I have
no problems with Nascar Heat, etc. Seems to be a Papy
thing in my case?
