My Sidewinder wheel has stopped working. It no longer appears in the game
controllers section. My sidewinder joystick still appears when I plug it in.
My wheel is still appearing in the system devices section of control
panel. I have reinstalled the sidewinder software and dx7a. Any ideas
before I have to do a full reinstall of windows.
BTW this happened after I downloaded and played Colin Mcrae Rally 2 demo.
When I started my computer next time i got a system settings being updated
message. And I hadn't changed anything. Coincidence?
The same thing happenned to me about 2 weeks ago, although with a usb
Precision-Racing wheel, which is the non-FF version of what you have. This
was also shortly after buying Colin McRae 2 and running it for the second
time only. Surely no coincidence.
I tried everything (and I do mean everything) to get it to appear again in
the controllers list but all to no avail. I didn't need to completely
re-install Windows though, if you run windows setup (d:\win98\setup.exe)
from the CD while windows is still running, without deleting your win98
folder, it will bascially repair windows for you, and you don't lose your
windows config. All your installed programs, registry entried and OS
patches/upgrades will still be there afterwards.
After I did this the wheel magically reappeared in the list and everything
is fine again. Give it a try :)
