Just having a browse through my CD collection for CD's (alright CD's didn't
exist in 1967, I know) recorded in 1967. I came up with:
Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
The Doors - The Doors
Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced?
Another obvious release from that year is Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club
Band, which I don't have.
Can anyone else think of or remember (we won't tell anyone, promise!) any
other famous album, or single releases from that year?
Chris

Chris,
I was fooling with a GPL short and found a Contemporary Christain title,
"God Is In Control" (Twila Paris) that works great, particularly with
multi-car pile-ups!!!!

Wow. I didn't know Golden Earring was making records that far back.
Never heard of them until Radar Love came out.

I've got the *original LP* here, Chris. Yes.......it WAS bought back then!
:-)
(FWIW, I also have the original LP soundtrack for GPL).

They started as early as 1961 performing live,
started recording in 1964
and had their first album in 1965
Originally the band started as Golden Earring"s"
but later dropped the S.

Do a Napster search and one might find them as MP3s. I have a set that were
ripped off a fairly good LP (very little noise).

"Hair"
Traffic had an album out, don't remember the name, but had "You Can All
Join In" on it.
Also, Country Joe & the Fish had "Electric Music for the Mind & Body"

Krzysztof Penderecki's oratorium "Dies Irae" dates from 1967. You can
play that on top of your "My Greatest Nrburging Crashes vol. I-LXVII"
replay series: the work was dedicated to the victims of the German
concentration camps of WWII.

But I have no need to do that, Bob.
I've got the original so why would I want a bootleg MP3? I can make my own
if I want.

LOL! Great one, Steve!
I've always liked Cris Williamson's "Wild Things" as a background for a
GPL video:
Go back into the darkness
Like the wild thing that you are.
Your teeth are much too sharp, my love
I'm afraid you'll go too far.
I'm sure you liked the shelter
I gave so willingly
But wild, wild things can turn on you
And you got to set them free.
Set them free, no matter what they say
Set them free, for they live another way.
It's the spirit of the wild things
That you love so much to see.
But wild, wild things can turn on you
And you got to set them free
Oh, you got to set them free.
Chris sings this song in a slow, lyrical way that I think would
highlight beautifully a series of long shots of an F1 car snaking along
the forest roads of rural Belgium - and then cut to a sudden closeup of
the same car nearly flat-out through the Masta kink, tires smoking and
engine at full song ...

Me? I load my favorite MP3 player, queue up the soundtrack and start GPL :-)
Very motivating until you start remembering movie scenes and lose
concentration.

he meant "Grand Prix".

Great album - eponymously titled (i.e., "Traffic"). However, like Rouen,
this was actually from 1968. Traffic's first album, also very fine,
called "Mr. Fantasy", WAS released in 1967, however.
Other great rock albums from 1967 ("The Summer of Love") --
- Beatles - "Sg.t Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
- Beatles - "Magical Mystery Tour"
- Cream - "Disraeli Gears" (my favorite band at the time)
- Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Are You Experienced?"
- Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Axis: Bold As Love"
- Jefferson Airplane - "Surrealistic Pillow"
- Jefferson Airplane -"After Bathing At Baxter's"
- Bob Dylan - "John Wesley Harding" (a comeback record after his bad
motorcycle accident, not as strong as his previous two - "Highway 61
Revisited" and "Blonde on Blonde")
- Moby Grape - "Moby Grape"
- Byrds - "Younger Than Yesterday"
- Buffalo Springfield - "Buffalo Springfield"
- Buffalo Springfield - "Buffalo Springfield Again"
- The Who - "The Who Sell Out"
- The Kinks - "Something Else By The Kinks"
- Paul Butterfield Blues Band - "The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw"
- Chambers Brothers - "The Time Has Come"
- Pink Floyd -"The Piper at the Gates of Dawn"
- James Brown - "Cold Sweat" (an appropriate GPL title!)
- The Doors - "The Doors"
- Rolling Stones - "Between the Buttons"
- Rolling Stones - "Flowers"
- Rolling Stones - "Their Satanic Majesties Request"
I know I'm forgetting some important stuff here....
And this doesn't even count all the great singles from that year by all
the Motown bands (Tempations, Four Tops, Supremes, etc.), Aretha Franklin
- "Respect", Young Rascals - "Groovin'" ....
And don't get me started on jazz (sadly, the year that John Coltrane died)
...
