G,Day all (thats Australian for hello) I,ve saved & saved for FFW to play GPL (well mabe 5% TOCA2 as well) and have not got good impression of the MSFFW or the Logitch GP FFW off this newsgroup and others, but these two as far as I can find out are all we Australians have to choose from (the ACTLABS wheel is too pricey with our exchange rate - around 55c to US$1:00) So unless anyone here in OZ can point me too another breed of FFW better than the above two my options seem to be: 1) Buy Microsoft 2) Buy Logitch "GP" 3) Stick with my trusty Ferraro wheel (great unit if anyone is after a non FFW) Any advice/opinions appreciated. Cheers D.O.G.
Grss Dich (thats SwissGerman for hello) ;) I drove for 1 year now the LWFF (old one made in China), i really liked it... but since 2 weeks or more it's not like it was (bizarre FF Effects and less and less precise). 3 days ago I bought the Thrustmaster(Guillemot) Ferrari FF Wheel... and I love it!! WOW it's just amazing this Wheel, how exact it is and the pedals are much better then the Logitech :)) Why not the Logitech GP -> It's just a bad Wheel! Why not the MSFF -> It will drop down your fps in GPL dramatic if you use FF :( Thats my suggestion to you... I've just got a USB MSFF to replace a gameport MSFF, and IMO it's a fair bit better (and not just cos it's a newer wheel). There doesn't seem to be the framerate hit I got with the gameport wheel, which is nice. I run a Celeron 500 with 64 megs, which is hardly state-of-the-art, and I have no problem getting 36fps, even at the start (unless I'm at the back of a 20-car grid). -- David. > Why not the Logitech GP -> It's just a bad Wheel! Can you elaborate? I've had the GP for a couple of months now and there's nothing wrong with it. Certainly there must be better wheels on the market but there is nothing inherently 'wrong' with the GP. Since I bought mine in Australia and the original poster wants suggestions on what to buy in Australia, I have to say go with the GP, for one reason - it's significantly cheaper than the others I've seen here. I bought mine online at ozbuy.com and got a cashback from Logitech which made the total cost about AUD130 including delivery. And you get SCGT with it too. -Nick

I had to make similar decision a week ago. I have choosen Ferrari FFW. It is very precise and pedals are good too. I am in Canada, so Act-Labs was an option too, but I bought Ferrari as I could return it if I didn't like. Alex.
IMHO I don't think there's anything 'wrong' with the GP wheel, just some less-than brilliant design decisions. The clamping system is not great. Two small plastic clamps that go just under the lip of the table. It felt weak - no non-slip rubber and if you have any kind of ridge on your desk, it probably ain't going to fit. The reason I didn't get it was because there are only 4 buttons (plus shifters). Only part of the wheel is rubber as well, and I like the feel of rubber on my skin. Uhhmmmm....that doesn't sound too good, heh. Those things are all subjective though and if you like it and it's working well for you, great. -Travis <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:913ii6$23pc$[email hidden]...

hey me too! :) i got it from buy.com.au before they busted :( i used the coupon twice. once to get the LWFF GP ($30 coupon) and the second time to buy a sony 140e cd-rw ($290 total after the ?$60? coupon) :) iirc i got the LWFF GP for $150 total, delivered to my door. and i still see harvey norman and other places selling it for $220! i'm so glad i got it from buy.com. regarding the wheel, it's a great first wheel i think. i've read a lot about how bad it is and it's cheap construction, but i don;t have any experience to compare with so i'm happy with it :) gears? cables? makes no difference to me :) and about the lack of nonslip pads, go to k-mart and buy them. they're about $5 for a pack of 10 and you can stick them on the bottom of the wheel. i got some stuck on the bottom of my desk, where the claps go. Hi again I'm agree with all of you, that the Logitech GP Wheel is not too bad, especially if it's your first wheel. It's just because I had the old LWFF Wheel and I compared it to the new one... and after that I was disapointed about this wheel... I also compared it to the MSFF and for sure the Thrustmaster Ferrari... and sorry but in comparison to this 2 wheels it's just a cheap wheel. I know that the price is also really less then the MSFF or the Ferrari Wheel. OK, if the price matter to you, buy the Logitech GP... if not buy the Ferrari or the MSFF. I got a LWFF (as they were just finishing being sold) from harvey norman for $200. I found out later that it was a mistake on their part - the GP's were $200, the LWFF were normally $300. I did see ferrari wheels at myer, but this was after I got mine. I'd go get one of them if I had to buy another. Pete "dog" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
