What do folks think about the N4 multiplayer?
Same as GPL. Unless everyone's connection is supersolid, car's will go a flyin' and a flippin'! yeah I agree... Even with steady connections is to touchy.. Had a good con to a good server and got bumped really really softly from behind on the straight..wouldn't even have scratced the paint but i flipped over violently.. It really is unsuited for this close racing.. I get the same 'i dare not get to close to him' syndrome i had in GPL...and in nascar it's all about 'getting close to him'.. I have tired Nascar heat online aswell, and that's way better. I don't know if nascar heat can take the same amount of people online as N4 can.. But i've race NH with 10 in one race, and you could bump someone and hit each other when side by side without without getting skyt rocketed...that one pretty much feels like offline...except sometimes when lag is to bad NH makes some cars 'see thru'. Best solution imo... It's said the net isn't good enough for multiplay...and off course there's thruth in that. But they way N4 does multi can really be improved me thinks...and NH proves that point Now as for the quality of most drivers.....uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrgggggghhhhh Most of the fast guys are all former(still) GPL drivers... I was in a race with 6 of us at the front all sub 38.5 orso...and asked who played GPL...all 6 were...the rest was silent...ggg:) 90% of former N3 drivers slide al over the track and aren't even capable of exiting the pits on the apron or driving a clean pacelap... horrido!! I'm really not that much of a freak...accidents happen..people make mistakes..fine with me...but what i've seen on the online races with N4demo..hehehe..amazing.. Personally, behind a sturdy SDSL connection, online multiplayer is superb UNTILL bandwidth becomes an issue. For some unknown reason, I have the number 15kbs in my head per player, but I have found out that if each player receives and uploads at around 7-10kbs, and the host can handle the load, the racing is great and the wild crashes do not happen at all. Though, when you come into contact with a modem user, all hell goes loose. So, clearly, for the low end user, the multiplayer system does need to be modified for race-ability. For high end users, the system is perfect -- Sincerely, Mark F.
