I've just found a way to get GPL to run twice as fast as normal and I'm
wondering if anyone else has also done this.
The end result is that everything happens on screen at twice the normal
speed, but the frame rate still reads the same (36 fps in my case), and the
lap times are still also the same.
The way it happens is, I go to an ms-dos prompt from within win98se. Then I
run a game, (in my case, its the old "It Came From The Desert" game...I dont
know yet if all dos based games will have this same affect on gpl, but I'm
assuming they would).
Once in the game, I ctrl-alt-del to bring up the "end task" box, and then
close out the dos window.
Now I just click on GPL as usual from the desktop, and everything goes by me
with twice the speed.
My usual laptimes for monza are 1 min 30 somethings. The pitboard still
shows these times, but In real time, I'm actually completing laps in about
45 seconds.
It actually gives a much better feel for cornering and trail braking.
Has anyone else tried this before ?
Weird.
Hmmm . . . I wonder what affect this would have with VROC? Would
synchronization go to hell and result in a disconnect, or would you you
remain connected while turning laps twice as fast as everyone else?

I ran it from floppy's. Everytime you changed location you had to swap
floppys and wait two or three minutes for the new scene to load.
BTW ICFTD was the grandfather of all the RTS games like Command and
Conquer and Age of Kings. It had a series of Ant attacks near the end that
was reproduced in the first Addon for Red Alert. (probably some of the guys
from the Desert team moved to Westwood when the Amiga died.){Either the old
Sierra series or John Madden Football for the PC uses NOTE for NOTE the
music from the old Amiga football game, TV SPORTS Football.}

Unfortunately, Cinemaware went bankrupt.
Fortunately, they're back! www.cinemaware.com

I had it some time ago and it screwed up the VROC race considerably;
everyone going twice as fast, with double the laptimes, eh, half that
is ;-)

Great game eh !!!
I just picked up a magazine with the full version on the coverdisc and thats
why I was playing it. Used to play it all the time on the Amiga 500, and
later the 1200. They've also included the Amiga version on this disc so that
if you have an Amiga emulator on the PC, it will run that as well. Gonna go
try this now.....mmmm.......ants.......aarrrarggggghhharrhhhhh
