I don't see that there will be too much of a problem. You can see,
visibly with your eyes if someone's using the wrong engine. It's surely
only a matter of time before GPL Analyser will be able to tell what
chassis/engine combinations are being used, right?
I view it like IndyCar Racing 2. You could have any chassis/engine even
tyre combinations in that sim! :) I suggest you all calm down and enjoy
the 47(?) new cars for GPL :)

Flame warDetecting GPL engine swaps descends into grammar feud
Rob Swindells argued that swapped engines could be spotted by rev ranges and sound, and Chris Cavin posted each car's rev limits. The thread then turned into a long and petty exchange over grammar and spelling corrections involving Bruce Kennewell, Don Scurlock and ymenard. It ended in off-topic chat about TV game shows and commentators.
Automated summary.
How can you visibly see it? If you are in an original car and are good at
getting fast exit speed...people are going to think you are using a
different motor...How do you prove someone that you are in an original car?
Some may take your word for it if they know you, but others will just label
you as a lyer and you lose all respect.

By watching the tach, if you're in the Brabham and are shifting above 6500
you're not running a Repco. It might be a bit harder to detect the
difference between a Cooper-Maser & a Cooper-Honda as the rev ranges are
closer.

Engine revs.
Brabham: 8700- 8800
Lotus: 9000- 9100
Cooper: 9900-10100
Eagle: 10100-10200
Ferrari: 10600-10700
BRM: 10700-10800
Honda: 11500-11600

I've no need to *study* it Don........I learnt the meaning of that one eons

Incidentally, to be slightly more grammatically correct, you should have had
a colon after the word "study" and dropped the upper-case 'P' from the word
"pendantic". The sentence would then have passed with flying colours.

Sounds good. I'll be looking forward to reading your Mario Andretti
Racing and Spirit Of Speed posts. As lame as those games are, they're
preferable to threads full of grammar corrections.
Tim
guys- after just reading your thread(gloom and doom) i couldnt
help notice a
glaringly obvious grammatical error on both of your parts. PENDANTIC is
not the word that goy meant. if i'm, right he meant to say PEDANTIC. then
the fact that
bruce missed that just made me crack up. i thought for sure when i saw the
word
that bruce would have a field day. guess not - and no- i dont wish the
title of GRAMMER POLICE to passed to me. thanks anyway but bruce is the

thoght you might get a kick out of this. i did.

That's a typo, matey, not a lack of knowledge.
The majority of those who use the word "your" when they mean "you are" or
"you're" haven't the faintest idea that they've used the wrong term.

Whoa you do not know who is Alex Trebek and/or Jeopardy?
It's a game show on Teevee, where people need to give the *question* instead
of the answer in a basic quiz situation. Alex Trebek is the host of it
since the beginning. You pick from 6 diverse category, with a cash price
for each. Let's not forget the Daily Double and the final round! Let's say
"I'll take racing simulations, for 200$"
Alex : "Released in 1998, it is the finest racing simulation to date, but
has tanked in numbers of copy sold"
You will have then to answer "What is GPL?"
Okie-dokie? :)
About everybody in North America knows about it, it exist for 17years now,
and is in syndication on about every bloody channel possible! With Matlock
it's about the favorite game of retired people. They have some sort of
admiration for the host (you wouldn't know how many 70 year old grammas
think of Alex as quite a gentlemen that would heat up their lonely nights
<g>).

I was a contestant on Jeopardy (taped in Nov 1992, aired in March 1993).

The show is actually much older than that. It first aired in the 60's - hosted
by Hugh Downs (who now is on 20/20 with Barbara Walters), created by Merv
Griffin (who also wrote the annoying theme song).

Well, that's good to know, Frank. It's nice to see that our hard-
working TV and movie people are having some success in selling their
products to the Canadian provinces. This will certainly be improving
our balance of payments and might even go some way towards mending the
bruised relationship between our two nations following the "Salmon
Matter" of some months ago.
Indeed, it's even nicer to read that you are so fortunate in Quebec to
be on the receiving end of this cultural invasion. I hope that you are

Gentlemen.
I'm getting dizzy with your ping ponging and I hate tennis.
Therefore this will be a contest over 15 rounds. No holding, punching below

Hmmm. I was pointing out that "its" indicates possession and therefore
"disruptive" is a noun in your sentence. I was pondering what a disruptive
is and what it would look like. What you should have written is "it's (or
it is) disruptive".

I understand your annoyance but what irritates me is someone posting a
message using poor English (I exclude those for whom it is not their first
language) because then the many readers (perhaps several hundred?) have to
make the effort to make sense of the message. Grammar and spelling are not
the esoteric pastime of pedants but the basis of communication. Spelling
checkers are part-and-parcel of any PC nowadays so there is little excuse
for mistakes (I always use one for e-mails, just to catch any typos),
although grammar checkers have some way to go before they guarantee that the
text makes any sense.

P.S. I like this newsgroup too but I like the regular posts about setting up
drivers for the latest NVidia graphics card to be seasoned with some OT
threads like this.
P.P.S. Judging by the length of the thread it seems there are a number of
people who find this a topic of interest, including you.
P.P.P.S. I'm not a teacher of English but perhaps worse - a software
engineer. Without the precise use of language I could not do my job - or
worse, I'd end up working for Microsoft!

Okay'mate.
Still, you people like Paul Hogan, but dislike the Crocodile Hunter no? I
mean he's some sort of sell-out.

And, you were right about the theme song...annoying indeed!
