Ummm, maybe for other sims but not N4 because it has OpenGL..Geforces kick ass with OpenGL. With a GTS and 1 GHz PIII machine I get 45-60fps average and have reached as high as 75 (sitting stopped on the track), using OpenGL at 1280x960x32 with *all* settings maxed. D3D same settings gives me 35-45fps. And I don't think it's the processor, if I use the regular (non TnL) HAL in D3D (i.e., let the processor do the TnL) I get 25-35fps. I doubt the V5's can touch that, but lets see some scores.... -Travis "Wishkah" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:k0UW5.32406$[email hidden]... > Best thing would be a Voodoo5500 AGP. It depends what prosseser you have but it will probably lower performance a bit, Glide is more efficient than D3D and N3 won't push a V3 to it's limits. You would be better off wateing for N4, by the time it comes out the GTS will have been surpassed by the NV20 and you could get that or a GTS allot cheaper than now. Alex

I have a voodoo3 now and I'm thinking of buying a GeForce2 GTS mainly to use with N4 when it comes out but I'm wondering how it works with N3. Since N4 is a couple of months away and I still race N3 quite a bit, I would hate to replace the voodoo3 and get less performance in N3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best thing would be a Voodoo5500 AGP. The reviews you might see about it might not be very good, but that's because the reviewers use Quake III as a benchmark, but the Voodoo5 is the best card for any type of sims, were the highest possible framerate is not as important as compability and image quality, both areas in which the Voodoo5 excels. The performance of the Voodoo5 has also been greatly incrased since the publishing of most reviews by the release of new extremely efficient drivers which u can download for free. And best of all the Voodoo5 can be bought for as low as 150 dollars. Wishkah <[email hidden]> wrote in message 3a2b899f.15301020@news...

I can tell u for a fact that the V5 can't do it.. my friend and I ran a 3 way network race across his machines... his with a GeForce GTS2 32mb, mine was a Voodoo3 and another was a Voodoo5.... the GeForce creamed everything else (all processors same and such... ) but then up to you.. you wanna waste money on a V5 then go for it :) not my money... GTS2 will be my next card.. 3DFX as you know have stopped any release of the Voodoo6 now and has sold it's chipset to work on other projects... probably because so many have turned to the GTS2 my two hooves.. fluffypony Phasor wrote:

They have stopped in-house production of their video cards and will be licensing out their chipset to other card manufacturers. Get your facts right.
