I`ve just been playing the nascar 4 DEMO, and thought some of you would like
to see the frame rates I`m getting on my computer.
It`s a PIII 550Mhz,
256Mb Pc100
S/blaster live
GeForce 2 GTS 64Mb,
L,Wingman F.Feedback wheel.
The track i tested the demo on was Michigan, the details were set to Max,
all effects were on. I was using the in car view with the dash showing. I
had none of the F-keys menus on screen ( more later ) also the speed and
gear view was turned off. Mirror was on Max as well.
TRACK LAPTIME RES RENDERING OPTION COLOR BITS
F.P.S
Michigan 38.848 1280x960 Open Glide
16bit 56.6
Michigan 38.832 1280x960 Direct 3d TnL HAL
16bit 72.4
Michigan 38.751 1280x960 Direct 3d TnL HAL
32bit 42.2
If however I turn on the F1 option to show time and lap time I would lose
about 10 fps, big killer.
I know my lap times are maybe not that fast, default setup !! ( ha ha )
But as you can see the 32bit palete is a bit of a pig, but 42.2 is still
fast at that res with all on, maybe with 40 cars on the grid it will be
different, but with Nascar 3 the grid size didn`t matter to much just the
amount of cars heard.
If you look at the car out side 16bit does look quite jurassic.........?
Not much more to say, other than all the U.K mags will slag it off as they
did with Nascar3, I don`t think the reviews ever watch Nascar or Champs in
the U.K... but if theres wheels and petrol i love it !
If you haven't already done so, you should disable Vertical Sync so as to
not limit the framerate to your refresh rate.

Hi,
hmmm, I don't know what to do. Just bought an Voodoo 5 5500 along with my
Athlon 1ghz and I'm extremely happy with it in GPL ( my main focus, because
I race in an GPL-LAN-League and, hey, it's GPL ), great framerates and
2xFSAA in 1024*768, but I get the bad feeling, that I'm a bit doomed in
NASCAR 4 with it. Have to say, I love the NASCAR 4 Demo, great feeling for
the Car, just like GPL. The framerates I get are absolutely stable 42fps in
1024 ( Detaillevel 3/4 ) in In-Car View and 78fps without Cockpit or in
800*600 cockpit view. Seems that T&L Geforce GTS are much faster in N4, but
what to do now ? I would hate to loose the great Image Quality of GPL in
Glide with FSAA, but I also would love to have a full field of Cars in
NASCAR 4, Framerates above 60fps and 1024*768.
Hmmm, seems I'm in need for an second Computer with an Geforce just for
NASCAR 4 and to stay with my Athlon/V5 for GPL but how to tell *that* to my
girlfriend and since-two-days-fiance ?
My only hope is, that I'm not doomed with my V5 in NASCAR 4 Final or that
the Rampage will feature Glide ;-).
Greetings,
Michael Staab

Brit Magazines suck anyway... why I don't buy 'em anymore (except
Bizarre)
anyway I only running a lowly:
PIII 500
128mb Ram
Voodoo3 3000 16mb AGP
S/Blaster Live
I ran at 800x600 (go on..say it.. but I got a shit monitor) and got
45fps average.. so it's not bad..
anyway I am upgrading soon... PIII 800, 128mb Ram, GeForce 2 GTS 32mb :)
so lets hope it's good looking :))

No problem. But, having F1 drop your framerate would suck if you're right at
the 'edge' of smoothness...
How fast is your system again? I don't remember.

a lot of objects in view (and being parked up?) when I tried it. While
driving and with complex scenery in view I too lose about 6-8fps. I don't
usually turn any of the F-windows on while driving (can't seem to reach for
my keyboard without swerving), but I tried it again last night and the
effect is really noticable at Dover, for example.

increase the framerate?

If your girlfriend/fiance thinks she has say over how you spend money
YOU earn, you should think twice about marrying her. :o)
That tendency does NOT get better as time passes.

GPL works great, but he was refering to the awesome look of the FSAA in GPL
with the V5...I hear the Geforce 2's FSAA doesn't work in GPL.

Open up the 3dfx tools, choose the advanced features and the press the +
symbol next to D3d or Glide. Near the bottom is a Vertical Sync option.
turn it off there. Easy...

There is an option to turn off v-synch for glide/opengl but not D3D.
There is an option like that in the V5 overclocker.

re-enabled the overclocking module. Which is also in the hub of the 3dfx
tools
