The more I drive it, more I like it (N4).

My compliments to test drivers (and to developers normaly). This thing is screaming "simulation ". Not like NH which is only made to grab a piece of dollar cake. It isn't even intended for simulation market (hardcore mode was last on their list). N4 is telling me, we're doing it because we love it. And this is the only good reason. Driving NH would only spoil my good taste. Thx Papyrus

Seeing as you haven't even seen the game running with any AI don't you think you're comments are a bit premature?

>Seeing as you haven't even seen the game running with any AI don't you >think you're comments are a bit premature? > You still race against the AI? With a little thing called multiplayer, I could care less if the AI weren't improved. I've tried the multi with N4 already and I'm quite happy with it. I definitely want improved AI the more refined and realistic the better. Don't give Papy an out to become lazy with the AI because you "could care less about if the AI weren't improved" do to "a little thing called multiplayer". I would venture to say more folks race AI then using multiplayer due to bad ping rates etc. But, then again, since YOU tried the multi with N4 and am happy with it ................................................ > You still race against the AI? Of course, the AI is very important. Can't always find a group of mature people to fill a field on a track you want to race on at the time you do. On 04 Dec 2000 00:26:47 GMT, [email hidden] (Target 12) wrote:

Some people have to pay for their connection time to the internet and some people live in places where it is difficult to race on-line due to high ping rates! Maybe you are happy with the multi-player game but there will be many more people who will never race on-line and I think they would like to see an improvement in the AI. This comment has been made too much for me not to comment. With N2, N99, N3, and now the N4 demo (can't remember about N1) after installing I had to specifically "uncheck" the driving aids. Didn't GPL even come with driving aids on as the default? Can it then be assumed that none of these driving games were really aimed at the Sim market? I'm only trying to make a point here, not put Papy down. If the developers don't ship with the aids on, then the arcade racers and newbies will consider it too hard to drive and take it back, whereas the hardcore simmer immediately knows where to look to remove the aids. Yes, Hardcore mode is a hidden (yet widely known online) feature that MGI placed in the config file, and I was hoping they'd put it in the menu for the release, but come on... NH hardcore is easy to turn on and screems out "I'm a real sim" to me. If hardcore mode was last on their list, why is it such a pleasure to drive in hardcore mode and one of the best features of NH? The problem most people have with NH is the modes (Beat the Heat and Race the Pro, as well as the progressive AI in normal mode) you would usually find in an arcade game. IMHO MGI/Hasbro is pulling off an incredible feat... successfully catering to the arcade and sim racers with one racing title. Not everyone on either side will cross over to really appreciate NH, but I think MGI be very successful with their new strategy. I didn't expect NH to de-throne Papy, but with some fixes, enhancements and tweaking it will definitely be very competitive with any Papyrus Nascar sim. That is really what we want here... right? After a couple hours of driving NH in hardcore mode, it spoiled my taste for N3 and I never went back. The same didn't happen after spending some time with the N4 demo. I didn't have the urge to leave NH, rather I got excited about the possibilities of enjoying two Nascar sims now! ;-) I'm loving the improved physics models of the Nascar sims and will enjoy watching Papy and MGI compete. Raising the bar with each title will now be necessary, and will only make my Nascar sim experiences more enjoyable. Dave Ericson "MomoBoy" JDB Racing

I haven't even tried N4 online. If it's like GPL and N3, I won't be able to keep up. At least I can turn *down* the AI...<g> Eldred -- Tiger Stadium R.I.P. 1912-1999 Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett GPL hcp. +44.17 Never argue with an idiot. AMEN, Marc! Papy may have a strangle-hold on good internet multiplayer code, but I think ISI's F1CS2K might be able to teach Papy a thing or two about intelligent AI! -- JB In article <CjZW5.32611$i%[email hidden]>, "Marc Collins" <[email hidden]> wrote: > Some people have relatively cheap high speed DSL Internetconnections, but > still want great AI because most people racing online are morons--andsome > of us have lives and jobs that don't permit the commitment that aleague

Some people have relatively cheap high speed DSL Internet connections, but still want great AI because most people racing online are morons--and some of us have lives and jobs that don't permit the commitment that a league requires.
