Flame warWarez F1 Championship Season 2000 sparks hostility

Alex Cameron asked for help with poor framerates in a downloaded copy of F1 Championship Season 2000 and said he would buy it if he liked it. Regulars attacked him as a warez user and mocked his spelling; he said he was dyslexic and the exchange became personal. Some on-topic advice covered Detonator driver versions and wheel deadzone problems with Logitech wheels.

Automated summary.

I can't spell because I'm dislexic, and since when is someone that has a two foot high pile of bought games sitting next to him a warezdood. I downloaded the game as a demo it dosn't work properly so I'll wait for the oficial demo befor buying the game. And sorry for swearing but these coments seem totaly unrelated to my post as I have tryed to explain I'M NOT A WAREZ DOOD. Alex, Warez is a VERY touchy topic around these parts, so you're ALWAYS going to be opening a can of worms when you use that word in a post. I do understand your approach, and I don't doubt your sincerity about purchasing what you like, but please remember that since you are not a regular poster her (I don't recognize your name as someone who posts regularly, anyway), many of the regulars may tend to view you as a slack-jawed, bottom-feeding "warez dood" who never spends a penny on what they play, and they will treat you accordingly. That said, I recommend that you browse the F1 2000 board on the High Gear F1 2000 forum (http://www.simracingnews.com/). They're not very friendly towards the usage of warez there, either, but you'll find a LOT of info on F1 2000 and F1CS2K there, so if you read and post carefully, you'll usually be able to find answers to your questions. One thing you might try is to check what your "SystemRating" value is in the config.ini file (located in your F1CS installation directory). My Duron 750 is assigned a "SystemRating=3" value by the game during initial setup and it runs VERY smoothly (20+ fps in nearly all situations, around 18+ during a start). I tried setting the value to "SystemRating=5" though, and my performance dropped down into the mid-teens (17 fps or so max, down to 12 or so at the starts). This can make a HUGE difference, as I believe the "SystemRating" value determines how large the textures are; faster systems can handle larger textures, whereas slower systems are only given smaller textures to work with (I THINK this is how the "SystemRating" value works, anyway). On my old AMD K6-2 500 system, for example, I was assigned a "SystemRating=3" value in F1 2000, but I dropped that down to "SystemRating=2" and then "SystemRating=1" and saw even better performance, but the performance came with a price, as the trackside details (billboards, signs, distance markers, etc.) became much less crisp and almost blurry (kind of like I was driving without my contacts!). It was a reasonable tradeoff fo me, though, so I accepted less crisp graphics in exchange for better frame rates. So, if you're experiencing poor performance, ALWAYS try taking your "SystemRating" value down a notch to see if that improves things. Hope this helps! -- JB In article <90bjk1$ojc$[email hidden]>, "Geordie Boot Boy" <[email hidden]> wrote: > I can't spell because I'm dislexic, and since when is someone thathas a two > foot high pile of bought games sitting next to him a warezdood. I've downloaded f1cs2000 to give it a try (if I like it I will buy the game, but I don't feel guilty about d/ling it because I bought the first and I think this is just the finished version of that) but the framerate is terable it runs at about 10fps even with no other cars and everything turned down on my athlon 900+gf ddr. I've herd the framerate problems of the original are sorted out in this one so it is oviosly the messed up warez but has anyone else runing the class warez without problems? Alex

fuck you I said I would buy the game if I like it, I realy don't thing EA need protection from you!!! I've had my fingers burn too many times not to try games befor I buy them, I've spent around 800 on games in the last year and a half I even bought Le Mans 24h for god's sake (if only I'd tryed that first) I liked the demo of Nascar Heat but it isn't avalable in the uk so insted of downloading it I orderd it form America. I understand that if everyboy took advantage of warez no games would get made and thats why if I like a game I've downloaded (and that's a whole 5 games and none of them apart from f1cs2k are still on my hard disk) I BUY IT!!! if I don't like it I DELETE IT and save myself 25. Ed, FPS of F1CS2000 is great on my PIII500 V3 3000, 1024 resolution, most details set to max, and with 21 cars. F1 2000 was unplayable with these settings on my system :) There must be some sort of driver conflict on your system. The deadzone and the ff however, are a problem. FF is hardly there, and deadzone is way to high on my LWFF (and ofcourse I set the deadzone to 0 in the game). Hope there will be a fix for this. Good thing: It immedialtely worked with my LWFF and CH pedals, so far only GPL worked immediately with this combo. To keep it short: F1CS2000 is imho a h-u-g-e improvement over F1 2000, and (again imho) the best F1 sim so far. I played GP3 after playing F1CS2000, and I had the same feeling when I played N3 after playing N4. Yep, I think it's that good. Andre

Nope -- none at all. I wiggle my TSW2 and the wheel in the cockpit of F1CS2K wiggles in unison. VERY cool! I'd guess that this is a bug (or "feature") with the Logitech drivers that only appears in conjunction with F12K and F1CS2K. I know the ISI guys use LWFF wheels, so I'll inquire to see what THEY do to make it better. -- JB.

Everyone that can't spell claims they're dyslexic -- maybe they are, but it's funny that before the term "dyslexic" came into the general vocabulary (quite recently), "bad upbringing" or "poor education" was the excuse. Use a spell-checker. I'm not going to ignite, promulgate, or even participate peripherally in another useless flame war about warez. Whatever justification you use (I've got a thousand-foot stack of games I've paid for, I'm just trying this out, yadda yadda yadda), it's stealing someone else's property...period. Jan Loebzien had the best answer: "If you're using a warez version, why don't you ask your questions on the warez boards then?" Since most warez users pride themselves (inordinately) on their technical chops, there should certainly be someone in the warez "community" who can help you out. Since you're a customer of BT Internet Services, and when you signed up with them you entered into a contract, enforceable under English law, whereby you agreed to abide by BTI's Terms of Service, let me point out some specific points from British Telecommunications' TOS dealing with copyright law and intellectual property rights: << 6.3 You warrant that the Information will not include any material which is (or the accessing of which) would be a criminal offence or otherwise unlawful. In particular, you warrant that all necessary licences and consents (including those from owners of copyrights or performing rights) have been obtained. 6.5 The Service must not be used: (a) fraudulently or in connection with a criminal offence; (b) to send, receive, upload, download, use or re-use any material which is offensive, abusive, indecent, defamatory, obscene or menacing, or in breach of copyright, confidence, privacy or any other rights; 21. Law/Jurisdiction This Contract is governed by English Law and you and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.>>
