Picked it up for $12.99 at Best Buy, which is pretty hard to beat! The
following are my impressions and comments after just a short bit of
playing time:
1) I don't really see much difference from NHRA-1. Newer, better
graphics maybe. Load time also shorter (I did a full install), and some
parts of the user interface are cleaned up.
2) Doesn't support split axes for pedals on driving wheel. Luckily my
TSW has a switch so I was able to get it working.
3) I wanted to use buttons for brakes and chute. However, I have a 2-
button wheel and was unable to map these functions because I could not
*unmap* the throttle from using one of these buttons. You can only
remap a control by selecting it and pressing a button, but since I only
have 2 buttons I could not change the throttle from its default
assignment! I eventually accomplished this by using regedit to edit the
registry -- not too hard for me to figure out, but hardly a general
solution!
4) I used to drive an A/FD and can say that the view, handling, and
feel are very well simulated. It's especially realistic the way the car
will try to "turn right" a bit during a burnout.
5) Replays are well done and fun to watch. However, I only discovered
by accident that there are some non-obvious keyboard keys that allow
you to zoom and move the camera around in some views. These don't seem
to be documented anywhere.
6) Multiplayer hooks are there, but it's not available yet. It will
be interesting to see how well this is done. In drag racing, literally
every millisecond counts, so how this will work with quarter-second
Internet lags is anyone's guess.
