Gpl folks,
I happened to find an intersting page of the history of
Crystal Palace. Perhaps somebody already sent it here,
but just to be sure:
"Racing at Crystal Palace"
is at
http://www.bmrc.co.uk/pubs/cpalace.html
Some highlights:
"Motorcycles returned on 27th June 1953, and saw a 19 year old John
Surtees (jnr) debut..."
"...Stirling Moss win an F2 race in a Cooper Alta..."
"...included Tony Ralt (Connaught), Bernie Ecclestone (Cooper Bristol),
Jim Russell (Formula 3), and Colin Chapman in his own side valve
Lotus. One of his mechanics, Graham Hill,"
"...1960 saw 30,000 spectators turn up to see rising star Jim Clark
drive a Lotus in an F2 race."
"...arrival of Jochen Rindt,..."
Etc. So, our guys seem to have been on the place... ;-)
Arto
PS I am eagerly waiting to get home: I only now have downloaded the
new track...

Thanks, a very impressive history. It adds a lot to the enjoyment of these
tracks to know some of their story. And a BIG THANK YOU to the lads at the
GPLEA for this wonderful gift.

Now I also have installed the track. Wonderful!! MANY THANKS also
from me to the GPLEA track artists! This evening I must try some
F3 and F1 races. By the way, this track reminds me a little of
an old small track that used to be inside Helsinki from 30's to
the beginning of 60's, Elaintarha, "the Zoo". Not the shape,
but the general feel...
What kind of records you drive at CP? F1, F2 and F3?

It's a bit depressing. I wish there was a way of keeping the hotshoes
off the new tracks for a while and give the ordinary guys a chance of
getting on the hotlaps board:-)

What do ya mean? The "King of Ordinary", no other than St.Eldred is on
Schubi's with a Crystal Palace time. The trick is to get in early
before the fast guys fill it up.

Hey! :)
Actually, that's the only way I'll EVER get on a top 100 list. I can't even
get CLOSE on a track that's 'full'. I have to run it before there are 100
entries...<g>

That's a good tip! Or get on the beta testers list for new tracks then
paste everyone on VROC before they get it:-)

Looks like I'm going to have to pop up there for a setup or 5. The best
I've so far managed with my own poor setup attempts is 51.8. :(

No person's opinions can be said to be
more correct than another's, because each is
the sole judge of his or her own experience.
